Unpacking Sunday: Saul, Philip and the Sorcerer.

This week, Luke and Mike catch up over one of life’s important topics—ice cream—before diving into Acts 8. Following the stoning of Stephen, Saul begins ravaging the early church, forcing believers to scatter. But instead of stopping the gospel, persecution spreads it. The story then shifts to Philip preaching in Samaria, where he encounters a sorcerer amazed by the power of God at work through his ministry. Mike and Luke unpack the tension in this passage and explore the sobering reality that people can sincerely believe they’re serving God’s purposes while actually causing harm. They discuss why these stories are placed back-to-back in Scripture and how important it is for believers to pay attention to the warnings woven throughout the text.
