17. Dr. Joe Ryman and Dr. Dolores Ryman

In this powerful episode of Wealth Gap Warriors, I sit down with Dr. Joe Ryman and Dr. Dolores Ryman, psychologists, authors, immigrants, and lifelong advocates whose work could not be more relevant to what our communities are experiencing right now. As immigration policies shift, fear increases, and misinformation spreads, this conversation goes beyond headlines and politics. We talk about the human experience of immigration, including trauma, resilience, identity, and what it truly takes to build a stable and meaningful life in the United States. Dr. Joe and Dr. Dolores share their own immigration journeys from Germany and Mexico to the U.S. and how those experiences shaped their life’s work. Together, we explore themes from their books Immigrant Psychology, Immigrant Concepts, and Immigrant Health, including: • Why trauma often shows up as “I’m not smart enough” or “I just can’t succeed”  • How immigrant communities demonstrate resilience through collectivism and cultural strengths  • The danger of fatalism and scarcity thinking and how to move beyond it  • Why information, not fear, is the most powerful tool during uncertain times  • How wealth is more than money and includes stability, dignity, agency, and access We also dive into the psychological toll of today’s political climate, the division it is creating within families, and how communities can stay united, grounded, and strategic rather than reactive. This episode is a reminder that trauma is treatable, resilience is learnable, and success is still possible even when the rules feel like they are constantly changing. If you care about immigrant wellbeing, cultural money beliefs, mental health, or redefining what wealth really means for underserved communities, this conversation will stay with you. This is Wealth Gap Warriors where we do not just talk about money. We talk about humanity, healing, and the long game of building a better future.
