In 2014, York was designated a UNESCO City of Media Arts. This means York is part of a global network of 'Creative Cities' that pledge to put creative industries at the heart of their ongoing development. Mat Lazenby is a Past Master of the Guild of Media Arts, which was formed as a result of the designation.
