We examine the transfer portal, how much kids are being paid, and finding it unebelievable things have gotten this out of control. Robert shares a story about his daughter's boyfriend, who was a punter at Florida Atlantic University. He enters the portal and hours later he is told to vacate his on-campus housing. Going into the portal doesn't mean you are definitely leaving the school; it is more about exploring other options. Roberts daughter helped him move into a hotel and thankfully he transferred to Old Dominion. Of the 10,000 players who entered the portal, 38% ended up being signed by a new university. Thousands are without anywhere to go and have to hope injuries during spring practice open up opportunities. Most kids who were not picked up were told to go back to their previous college. Unfortunately, spots have been either filled, or the coaches don't want players back. The NCAA created a 15-day scramble, which ended up being a mess and thousands of kids left with nothing. Robert and Koz talked about the situation at UConn where the players held a voted about playing in the Fenway Bowl. 40% wanted to go, many opted out or played limited action and we were embarrassed by Army. The guys were mortified, a vote decided that game? Joe Fagnano feeling the team wasn't "ALL IN", so he pulls out for the Hula Bowl? A 7th year senior, whose coach just left, could have rinsed to the occasion and been a leader. Instead, he abandoned his team, quit on everyone,

Husky Talk- Daryll Woods

A new episode of Husky Talk with a man who lettered in UConn Football and UConn Basketball. Darryl Woods was a tremendously gifted athlete. When I was a freshman, I lacked toughness, I didn’t have the work ethic needed to play college football at the highest level. The man who had enough and pushed me on a Sunday workout, was D-Woods. He was tired of watching me get by and went off, taught me unless you bring your best each day, you will fail your team. Woods went on to play basketball for 2 seasons which was an amazing achievement. He believed in his talent and ability when some didn’t think he had a snowballs chance of making the basketball team. D loved basketball and got his opportunity to walk on and made the most of it. He is very happy now with a family, he is a grandfather, and also an accomplished dog breeder.

I have been extremely lucky to have outstanding guests on Husky Talk; however, this episode is easily the best I've experienced. Two UConn Football legends, who developed a bond, and became the best of friends, even years later, came on. I have to thank Robert Belcuore for making this happen and scheduling the episode. Brian Kozlowski, I remember being terrified to interview him and he could not be a nicer guy. I appreciate both men making time for a podcast that will be a huge help to me, an extremely kind, selfless gesture and shows how UConn Alumni will always support each other. We had an absolute blast, and I was able to listen to of the best players in UConn Football history reminisce, tell hilarious stories. From the moment Robert and Koz met, to when they became close. Hearing about Koz losing his father days before a game and Robert being there for him demonstrates a connection beyond football. Koz played in the game after his father passed because he knew it's what he would want him to do. Stories about the crew packing in Carriage House apartments. Campus was not like it is now, with plenty of apartment complexes, Celeron, and another place were the options. Robert talks about how they have many roommates and because rooms were small, mattresses were thrown on the floor. Which was hilarious because when I lived there over the summer with my friends, we did the exact same thing. Bodies were everywhere, the only difference was I used an air mattress, which was popped about 5 different times of course! Watch the show, I don't want to give too long of a description. For me, it was so cool watching incredible players, who pushed each other on the field, in the weight room, training all summer, to get better.
