episode #9: Empowering Working Mothers: Strategies for Navigating Discrimination and Bias in the Workplace cover

#9: Empowering Working Mothers: Strategies for Navigating Discrimination and Bias in the Workplace

In today's episode, we'll be discussing the challenges working mothers face when it comes to discrimination and bias in the workplace, what these biases can look like and five strategies to help you navigate these challenges. 1. Discrimination and bias can be overt or subtle. 2. Working mothers are stereotyped as not being as committed to their careers as their childless counterparts. 3. One of the strongest biases women face, whether they have children or not is called the Maternal Wall Bias. 4. The expectation to always be available is another challenge for working mothers which is not reasonable. Quick Win Takeaways: ¨ Open and honest communication with your employer lets them know that you're still committed to your job ¨ Don't go it alone, build a support network with other working mothers or a professional organization for working mothers. ¨ There are federal laws that protect you as a working mother from discrimination and bias ¨ If you've been a victim of discrimination and bias as a working mother, report it to human resources or your supervisor ¨ Seek mentorship and sponsorship from senior leaders in your company Episode Highlights: [1:03]: Bias can lead to working mothers being passed over for a promotion or being given less challenging assignments. [1:10]: Gender bias leads to people making biased assumptions that disadvantage us as women in the workplace. [2:08]: One of the strongest biases women face, and this is women with or without children, is one called the maternal wall bias. Motherhood itself just triggers this assumption that women are less confident and less committed to their careers. [2:58]: Indicators of how this maternal wall actually shows up in the workplace. When a mother works outside of the office, people tend to just assume that they're hanging out at home with their children. [3:50]: As a mother, you might not be offered a very challenging assignment or a promotion because the manager's going to assume that either you don't have enough time or maybe you can't handle it because you have children. [7:28]: As a working mother, it's very, very important to let your manager know that you're still committed to your job, but that you also need flexibility in order to manage your responsibilities as a parent. [10:50]: Having the support network is so helpful because it provides a lot of valuable resources to you, and it's good to have a sounding board. It's good to realize that you're going through this personal struggle, but you are not alone. [14:06]: Know that you cannot be discriminated against when it comes to hiring or even if you're already a full-time employee, if you are pregnant and there are laws to protect us. [14:07]: Document any instances of discrimination or bias. Make sure to keep track of any specific incidents or the dates and any witnesses so that you can actually provide concrete evidence if it's necessary. [14:30]: Seek mentorship and sponsorship from senior leaders in your company. If you have a advocate at a higher level in the organization, it really can help to promote your work and it can open doors to new opportunities Knowledge is Power! episode #8: 5 Time Management Strategies For Working Moms cover

#8: 5 Time Management Strategies For Working Moms

Happy New Year! In this episode I’ll share 5 time management strategies for working moms. 1. Pick Team A.M. or Team P.M. (morning or night person) 2. Eisenhower Method to prioritize      activities 3. Use a paper or digital planner 4. Move forward a task daily 5. Streamline your busy work Quick Win Takeaways: 1. Strategize self-care based on the time of day that works best for you. 2. Sorting and scheduling tasks makes prioritizing their importance much easier. 3. Moving tasks forward doesn’t always mean you have to do it. 4. Streamlining busy work prepares you for the unexpected and gives you a clean slate to start the next day. Episode Highlights: [1:03]: When is your energy higher in the mornings or at nights? That's the time period where you need to try to grab some time just for you. [1:57]: Don't try to be on the two teams. Don't try to be team A.M. and team P.M. because you’ll burnout. [4:23]: First task is urgent and important. The most important things and you're the only person that can do it. Number two is your urgent but not important tasks. So those are things where you can delegate what needs to get done. [5:16]: Box number three is the tasks that are important to you, but they're not urgent. Such as scheduling yearly physical exams. Last box number four is the less important task and not urgent. Tasks like going through your inbox and deleting emails. [6:59]: The more you can manage your time, the more you have control over your life. Decide if you are a person that likes to plan on paper or analog or are you more of a digital/ electronic type of person. [10:26]: Have a move forward task every day and focus yourself on getting those tasks done. The way that you do it is even if you have 15 minutes, you can think to yourself, what can I do in 15 minutes that will move me the most? [12:05]: Streamlining your busy work helps you be prepared just in case something goes wrong. Using a dishwasher, preparing frozen meals as time-savers gives you back hours of your week. [14:32]: Give yourself Grace. It's okay if you didn't get every single thing done in your urgent and very important list, you'll get it done tomorrow. Do the best that you can and just remember that you're in charge of your life. For all my busy working moms, take the opportunity of a brand new year to get control back over your life. #7: Decompress & Unwind: End of Year Edition

In today's episode, I'll share four ways to decompress and unwind at the end of the year as a mature mom. 1. It's important to set boundaries 2. Focus on self-care 3. Take time to reflect on the past year 4. Reach out for support Four Quick Win takeaways: 1.Setting boundaries will help you prioritize your own well-being. 2. It’s okay to say “No.” 3. Make a self-care list of activities that YOU enjoy. 4. Reach out for support by planning in advance. Episode Highlights: [1:08]: a boundary is just like a wall and sets up what we are available to do. [3:48]: self-care is all about doing things that make you feel good and helps you to recharge. [4:48]: when you take time to reflect, it's going to help you gain some perspective and put things into perspective (so you can see how much you’ve really accomplished in a year!) [5:37]: don’t be afraid to reach out for support, because none of us were made to live this life alone. [8:14]: remember to take care of yourself. episode #6: How To Boost Your Mom-fidence cover

#6: How To Boost Your Mom-fidence

Boosting your Mom-fidence as a Mature Mom As a mature mom, confidence is one of the most outstanding qualities you must possess. Mom-fidence (or Mom Confidence) is when you, as a woman and a mother, after age 35, begin to feel sure of yourself and your ability to care for and raise your child through the challenges and setbacks of life as well as the opinions of others. I would love for you to appreciate the fact that if you have your baby after the age of 35, you bring a lot to the table. You likely have a job, your degree, and a lot of wisdom you have gathered over the years. You are not where you used to be at 20. Confidence comes from experience: do you remember when you were learning how to drive? How was it? The fact is you get better with time. The same thing applies to motherhood. There is no manual on how to do it, so you must learn on the job. Remember that you have unique abilities that make you the best mom to your kids. Are you struggling with mom-fidence? Today’s episode is for you. I share two tips that will help you boost your confidence. · You need to learn how to tune out the other voices effectively. Regardless of your stage as a mom; you must learn how to filter the different voices that come to you. People have a way of pouring out their wisdom to you, and it is upon you to know what to keep and what to trash. Differentiate between valuable and useless voices. · Keep away from comparison and competition. Motherhood is not a competition, and it’s not a one-size fit. When you compare yourself to another mom, you may look at her and think she's doing an excellent job. So, you see her as an excellent mom and compare yourself and begin to think you're average or bad. Key Talking Points of the Episode: [01:02] What is Mom-fidence? [01:49] As a mature mom, you bring a lot to the table [03:05] We have unique abilities [04:11] Learn how to differentiate voices [09:22] In motherhood, there is no competition Inspirational Quotes from the Episode: “There's no way that at 35, you're the same person you were when you were at 20. So, imagine all of this you have to give to your child.” “Comparison is the thief of joy.” “Once you start looking around, you get distracted, and that's where comparison steals your joy and confidence.” Keep building up your Mom-fidence! episode #5: Living in a New "Mom" Time Zone cover

#5: Living in a New "Mom" Time Zone

Living in a New Time Zone as a Mature Mom What time zone are you in? Do you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to join an online meeting, and you keep missing the time conversions? Relax, it happens! Today I want us to talk about living in a new time zone as a mature mom. I know you must wonder, “what do you mean, Donna?” As a mature mom, I have episodes that I’m unable to adjust to things happening around me, especially when it comes to my daughter. I have realized the more I take up more commitments, the less time I spend with my daughter which isn’t what I desire. We need to appreciate the fact that life is a pie; the more you slice, the more energy you require to attend to all the slices. We keep adding things to our plates and fail to realize the effect it has on our time. It shrinks our time leaving us with limited time for our precious gifts. What’s your current role? I know some of us are in managerial roles, and they come with a fair share of responsibilities that make us work longer. We mature moms need to be strategic in every role we take up. Make sure it doesn’t make you feel like caring for your child is such a difficult task, and if it gets there, it is a clear indication that you are not in the right time zone. You need to get another role that works with your current time zone. Listen in to learn more. Key Talking Points of the Episode: [01:30] Understanding your time zone as a mom [04:39] Our commitments need to shift [05:37] Your life is a pie don’t slice it too thin [07:43] The importance of being strategic in every role you have [13:54] You are raising a champion Inspirational Quotes from the Episode: “I want you to understand that you are having limited time during the week as an older mom, it does not make you inadequate, and it definitely does not make you antisocial.” “One thing I’ve learned is that the more you add to your life, the more you divide your life.” “Frustration happens because we start feeling upset or annoyed that we’re not able to achieve something.” “Remember, your life is a pie, and you don’t want to slice it too thin.” “The clock never worries about what time it is, it just tells us what time it is. And we move according to the time of day or the time of night. I want you to move according to the time of your life.” Connect with Me: Get your FREE eBook (5 Ways Moms Can Overcome Overwhelm): https://thoughtful-leader-30.ck.page/787df7e85d [https://thoughtful-leader-30.ck.page/787df7e85d] LinkedIn: @dnadinebailey Facebook: @dnadinebailey Website: https://www.dnadinebailey.com [https://www.dnadinebailey.com/] Email: info@dnadinebailey.com

En fantastisk app med et enormt stort udvalg af spændende podcasts. Podimo formår virkelig at lave godt indhold, der takler de lidt mere svære emner. At der så også er lydbøger oveni til en billig pris, gør at det er blevet min favorit app.
