7 FolgenMitch Grandy is a junior at Ohio University studying film. IN this podcast, we cover his journey to filming the Nelsonville Music Festival: He shares stories of his childhood preoccupation with filmmaking, his previous filmmaking experience, pivotal films in his growth, and of course, stories from the Nelsonville Music Festival. Mitch is a hilarious guy, and offers some great insight in all areas , from film to modern communication in general. One of the most enjoyable podcasts yet! Have fun with Episode 3, Mitch Grandy. Deborah Woolsey is a priest for the Church of the Good Shepherd, an Episcopalian church located at the top of Morton Hill in Athens, Ohio. Woolsey talks about her journey to the cloth from working at a small book store in Wisconsin. She gives a good overview of the Episcopalian church in general, then zooms into her experience with running a church in Athens, touching on the free lunches they provide to the public every Wednesday and the café that she hopes to include in the basement of the church in the future. We get into philosophy, the purpose of intention, the existence of the soul, and the importance of sharing love and friendly competition. Don't miss this opportunity to learn some theology from one of the coolest reverends around A-Town!
Jon Ward is an artist, and a recent graduate of Ohio University. In this episode, he gives an overview of his life and art, which culminated last Spring in a thesis, "Head Count", that focuses on the difficulties of concussions brought on by a youth spent playing football. Jon's personal concussions gave him a lot of trouble, but they also gave him synesthesia, a psuedo-superpower where the line between vision and sound becomes very blurred for him. We talk about all this, with a sprinkling of Kanye West, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Modern Art vs. Hyperrealism and more in this beefy podcast. Be on the lookout for an upcoming Graphic Novel by Ward of the same name as his Thesis ("Head Count").
Max Wolff is a Political Science student and seasoned traveler from Ohio University. In a podcast that is blasphemously short, he shares some stories from his travels in Europe and Southeast Asia, including a near-death experience in Thailand. He gives us his thoughts on the immigration crisis in Europe (based on a project he did with an international student think tank) and the European Union. We talk about War vs. Innovation, Nukes, Angkor Wat, and the future of drones and food delivery. Max is an infinitely interesting guy, and I severely regret not having time to talk more with him about his many adventures. One of the most interesting and enlightening podcasts of the brood--definitely check it out!
Reza Mehr is an Iranian cinematographer in his third year of graduate study at Ohio University. I was honored to sit down with him and talk about his experience in film, the films that have inspired him over the years, the difficulty of marketing independent film, and his experience in his home country of Iran. Mehr offers the advice to every American that they should travel as much as possible, and after this podcast, I am certainly inspired to travel to Iran.
