As we close out Sexual Assault Awareness & Child Abuse Awareness Month, we chatted with Kolee from the Practicalsaint Talks podcast about her childhood trauma all the way to her journey of healing. Right Response Consulting works with law enforcement, businesses and educational institutions on training & investigations of sexual assault, harassment & domestic/workplace violence. We had the opportunity to chat with cofounder and legal prosecutor, Kathryn Marsh. She worked for 17 years with Washington DC's SVU as well as with sex abuse survivors prosecuting sex crime cases. One thing is for sure, it pays to know the law. Her stories were heartbreaking but her advice is invaluable for everyone. Biography Kathryn Marsh is the Co-Founder of Right Response Consulting (RRC) and a career prosecutor of seventeen years. She presently serves as Special Counsel, Assistant Chief of the Special Victims Family Violence Unit and the Legislative Co-Chair for the State’s Attorney’s Office in Prince George’s County, Maryland. For the past twelve years Ms. Marsh has specialized in the field of child abuse and sexual assault cases. Mrs. Marsh also functions as professional trainer for Assistant State’s Attorneys and staff, as well as for law enforcement, community organizations, state organizations and other legal professionals. She has served on several National and State Task Forces and has been asked to assist in drafting legislation and has been called on to testify on behalf of criminal legislation before the Maryland legislature for a number of years. Ms. Marsh has also worked as an adjunct professor of Criminal Law for the University of Maryland University Campus from 2009-2019, and is a Current Associate Professor with the National Criminal Justice Training Center of Fox Valley Technical College. In addition to her work with the in the criminal law field, Ms. Marsh also serves on many community boards. She is currently the Treasurer of the Calvert County Commission for Women and sits on the Board of Directors for the Library Foundation of Calvert County, and the Optimists of Calvert County. Mrs. Marsh has been recognized for her work with children and sexual assault prosecution numerous times, she was named one of Maryland’s Top 100 women in 2019, received the Collaborative for Children & Youth’s Champion of Children award and the Crisis Intervention Center’s Domestic Violence POWER award in 2018. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), an annual campaign to raise public awareness about sexual assault and educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. In support, we interviewed Shannan Webster the volunteer & outreach coordinator at The Victim Service Center of Central Florida. They offer a variety of services for those affected by sexual assault and violence including support and therapy. We are kicking off Sexual Assault Awareness & Child Abuse Awareness month with Rosalia Rivera from CONSENTParenting and AboutCONSENT Podcast. We had a very informative, insightful, and touching conversation. We could have gone on for hours talking about consent, sexual abuse, grooming, and human sex tracking. She is changing the dialogue of teaching from a fear-based conversation to a consent-based one by working on dismantling rape culture, creating a consent culture, and helping survivors step into their healing journey. She teaches parents, especially parents that are survivors themselves, how to navigate the journey of abuse prevention, break the cycle and empower all of us! These are very valuable conversations that we need to have with both children and adults. She offers plenty of free resources in her private Facebook group, website, and podcast. As well as offering classes, workshops, and courses. Rosalia Rivera is a consent educator, abuse prevention specialist, sexual literacy advocate, speaker, change agent, and the founder of CONSENTparenting™.
