EP 7/ The Most Abundant Summer of My Life, Learning About MENA, Starting a Business @McKreates at 22, and Taking a Leap of Faith

After a short break, this week McKenzie talks about the summer study abroad program she worked with, and beginning their social media presence. The Students of the United States Institute (SUSI) Global Women's Leadership program allowed her to reframe common held ideas about the people who live in the Middle East and North Africa, drawing similarities and differences in culture and livelihoods. This episode encourages listeners to begin a new narrative about the world, which we seem to be portrayed as "superior" to, when in actuality we are blind to the treasures present in our melting pot of a country. With the education she received, season two will come with guests from around the world including Kurdistan region of Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia, and more. The summer that changed the outlook of her future will shape the upcoming season to be diverse in guest speakers, and push listeners to step outside of their comfort zone to challenge their ideologies in a way they never have before.  If any of the topics moved you to share your opinion, feel free to fill out the survey posted on our Instagram story: @the1212podcast [https://instagram.com/the1212podcast?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=], and if you want to join the conversation, or you are looking for resources, add our Geneva Group chat: https://app.geneva.com/invite/4dcb32bf-fb5a-4e9f-8a39-1f6f0aac7d7a [https://links.geneva.com/invite/4dcb32bf-fb5a-4e9f-8a39-1f6f0aac7d7a] .
