Capable enough. Good enough. And sometimes we place that same burden on others. We expect people to earn our respect. Earn our acceptance. Earn our love. But the witness of scripture points us in a different direction. Paul reminds us that while we were still weak, while we were still far from who we were created to be, God’s love is already being poured out for us. (Romans 5:6-8) Not after we prove ourselves. Not after we get everything right. Not after we become worthy. But now. Love is not a reward for achievement. It is a gift. And the invitation is for us to freely give what we have freely received. In these moments we are reminded to remain steady and be encouraged that we will make it through. “…But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” — from Matthew 10:22 “Endures” (ὑπομείνας / hypomeinas) here means to be steady, consistent, and persistent in the face of pressure. We don’t allow ourselves to get swept up in the chaos of the moment. We stay centered regardless of what is happening around us. “Saved” (σωθήσεται / sōthēsetai) here means preserved, made whole, and delivered. When People Oppose Us

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2295449/fan_mail/new] When People Are Against Us When people are against us, and do not have our best interests at heart, we often feel angry, afraid, or simply disappointed. We’re tempted to seek revenge or retribution. Or at least to get them before they can get us. But Genesis shifts our focus away from them and back onto our purpose. “I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3) At first glance, this verse appears to tell us to leave revenge to God. But a deeper reading places the emphasis elsewhere—not on those who oppose us, but on the calling God has given us. There will always be people who oppose us. Vigilance is appropriate.
