Acerca de Bold Enough to Ask

A BreatheStrong CF podcast featuring tough conversations on sexual & reproductive health for people with cystic fibrosisRelationships are hard. Intimacy is complicated. Throw in cystic fibrosis, and things get real.BreatheStrong CF brings you a rare and honest podcast that dives into the awkward-but-real questions many are afraid to ask – the intimate, often unspoken realities of navigating sexual health, relationships, and reproductive health with a chronic illness. We aim to create a safe space for people with CF to ask the uncomfortable questions, hear the lived experiences, and get the answers they’re looking for. Season 1: Men Have QuestionsSeason 1 of Bold Enough to Ask focuses on the nuances of reproductive health for men with cystic fibrosis. For many men with CF, this topic is left off the table among each other and even in clinic. This leaves men with a lot of questions as they navigate relationships, thoughts about fatherhood, and their general sexual health as they age.

S1: E4 Uncomfortable Conversations on Sexual Function

Approximately 65% of men with cystic fibrosis (CF) report experiencing sexual function issues, yet so often we avoid this topic both in and out of clinic. Episode 4 of this first season of Bold Enough to Ask: Men Have Questions will cover those uncomfortable conversations, tapping into things such as delayed puberty, impacts on libido, how diabetes is connected to erectile dysfunction, and how men with CF practice safe sex. Join us for this important topic to answer the questions you're bold enough to ask (and our guests are bold enough to answer). GUESTS Justin M. Dubin, M.D., is a board-certified urologist and director of Men’s Sexual Health at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. He specializes in male infertility and sexual health, treating conditions such as erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, ejaculatory disorders, testicle pain, low testosterone, varicoceles and other male genitalia issues. Dr. Dubin has published his research work on male infertility and sexual health in numerous medical journals and presented at scientific conferences. He also serves as a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed medical publications. We also have two brothers with cystic fibrosis living in California. Abhijit Tirumala is 24 years old, and his older brother, Srivas, is 29. Host: Chad Bautch Chad was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was 3 years old.  When Chad was diagnosed, the doctors told his parents that the average life of a CF patient was 14. Chad had a normal childhood; he played many sports, was involved in high school clubs, and even spent two summers working outdoors.  In college, Chad met Heidi and fell head over heels in love. They got married young; Chad was 21 and Heidi was 20.  In 2002, Chad and Heidi welcomed their first child, Carter, into the family.  In 2009, twins Landon and Millie were born. In January of 2014, the physicians at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Fairview accepted Chad into the transplant program, and in mid-2016, Chad received a life-changing lung transplant. He has been a speaker at the CFF BreatheCon.

S1: E1 Infertility & the IVF Journey

Infertility affects 98% of men with cystic fibrosis [https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8695349/]. In this episode, we unpack what it really means to navigate fertility testing, assisted reproduction, and relationship dynamics throughout the in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey for men. Guests share honest stories about the mix of science, hope, and vulnerability that comes with starting a family with CF. Bold Enough to Ask is focused on sexual and reproductive issues and concerns in the cystic fibrosis community. Some topics are better suited for a mature audience.  This podcast is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult your physician or qualified healthcare provider with questions about your health.
