Acerca de Country Roads with Ben Earle

Singer songwriter Ben Earle is offering Country fans a fresh take on the lives and careers of their favourite artists. Country music has always been closely tied to the land from which it sprung, and as a result many of the best Country songs tell us stories with a strong sense of place; be it Dolly’s Mountain Home in Tennessee, Tim McGraw’s Nashville, or Cam’s Redwood Tree in California. We’re taking this one step further by better getting to know our favourite Country stars through the places that are most important to them; the landscapes that have shaped them, the places that have opened their eyes to new possibilities, the people who’ve crossed their paths and inspired them to capture their story in a song. If their lives were a stack of postcards, where would they be from? We also dive deep into the songwriting, to find out more about the places that have inspired some of our guests most beloved songs. There’s a saying; we are everywhere we’ve ever been. So meet us here every Thursday to hear real stories about the places that have made the biggest and brightest Country artists who they are today. Hosted on Acast. Portada del episodio Ashley McBryde

Ashley McBryde

Ashley McBryde was born to tell stories, and normally we enjoy them in a song, but today you get to hear the stories behind those songs, in her own words. Here, Ashley gives a compelling account of her remarkable journey so far, from her strict fundamentalist upbringing living off the land in the middle of nowhere Arkansas where she was drawn to a guitar she wasn’t allowed to touch, to her scary near misses playing real life dive bars and learning stagecraft the hard way, to playing Girl Going Nowhere on the Opry stage and learning to tame her anxious mind so she could truly allow herself to shine. She got gone, and she got far! Ashley also speaks openly about how her relationship with alcohol deteriorated, why she ended up going to what she describes as “trauma camp”, and the shocking realisation she had during her first sober performance outside of treatment. Much like with her songs, prepare for beauty and pain, toughness and softness, humour and heart, from this very special conversation with one of the most respected artists in Country music.  Ashley’s new album Wild is out now, and you can listen to all the songs discussed in this episode on our ‘Country Roads Podcast Playlist’ [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6bJbnpstqUtlUUdGg7J4et?si=j7fgZRZoTMCQCyTF6IXEgw] on Spotify.  Warning: This episode contains some wonderful swearing! ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Portada del episodio Carter Faith

Carter Faith

Rising star, Carter Faith, is an artist that leaves it all on the page, and in this episode she talks honestly about being true to the artist you are and not censoring yourself to compete for the most airplay. She also discusses the sound of her ACM nominated album, Cherry Valley, and why she wanted her debut record to be "something you could really sink your teeth into." She also shares how Taylor Swift was a big inspiration to her growing up, and how nobody was more shocked than Carter to find herself writing with Taylor’s long time collaborator, Liz Rose, before she had even graduated! Carter also reveals some of her struggles with social anxiety and pre-show nerves, and how unlike when she’s writing, she can sometimes feel a little out of place as a performer. Carter has perfected the art of doing it scared, and lifts the lid on the ways she made sure she would have a career as a songwriter in Music City.  Carter also reveals what life was like growing up in her hometown, why Nashville finally feels like home now, and how her unlikely friendship with Billy Bob Thornton came about. Caution: This episode contains strong language. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy [https://acast.com/privacy] for more information.

Portada del episodio Fancy Hagood

Fancy Hagood

If Country songwriting is defined by storytelling, then shouldn’t all stories be included? This week’s guest has made it his mission to combine queer stories with the genre that he grew up loving, without diluting himself in the process. Fancy Hagood has been on a journey of self-discovery since he left his home in Arkansas for the bright lights of Nashville when he was just 17, and as he shares in this episode, it’s been a turbulent ride…Fancy has always taken up space in defiance of school bullies and industry nay-sayers, emboldened by a strong and supportive family and a musicality that feels anointed. Here, he shares many stories from that journey, including what it was like coming out to his Christian family, how pop fame in L.A. crushed his self-esteem, and ultimately, how he turned disappointment into gratitude and found freedom and community as an independent artist.  If one quote could sum up this episode, it’s this: “It was a big lesson in, I don’t need to listen to nobody who is not me!” This is an inspiring story of self-expression and self-belief that everyone needs to hear.  Listen to all of the songs discussed in this episode by searching Country Roads Podcast Playlist on Spotify, and hit save, so you always have our specially curated Country playlist whenever you need it. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Portada del episodio Jackson Dean

Jackson Dean

Heavens To Betsy hitmaker, Jackson Dean, is a man who loves to travel and takes great inspiration from the natural landscapes he finds himself in, so who better to be our guest on Country Roads! Jackson traces this back to his upbringing in Odenton, Maryland, where he grew up exploring the sprawling woods and the east coast. Jackson also speaks a lot about family; his ancestral ties to Germany and Scotland, how he was seeking his father’s approval as a young person, and how being the youngest in the family meant he was exposed to lots of different music in his early years. He also reveals what it was like living in his grandfather’s tack room for two years, then moving from Maryland to Nashville, and how writing songs with other people initially blew his mind.  Jackson’s new album Magnolia Sage is out on Friday, 24th April, 2026 - and you can listen back to all the songs discussed in this episode via the Country Roads Podcast Playlist [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6bJbnpstqUtlUUdGg7J4et?si=j7fgZRZoTMCQCyTF6IXEgw] on Spotify. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. Portada del episodio Angie K

Angie K

Angie K joins Ben to talk about how her El Salvadorian roots and her upbringing in Georgia have both influenced her music, and the joy of being an independent artist and growing your audience organically. Angie tells us the stories behind some of her most transportative songs like Laredo, and how living in El Salvador as a child was both beautiful and dangerous. She gets emotional speaking about the full circle moment she had thanks to her choir teacher, and speaks openly and honestly about being a gay artist in Country music. Angie also shares stories from some of the happiest times in her life when she worked on a cruise ship and how that inevitably led to her meeting her wife, as well as what it was like singing in front of her childhood hero on The Voice! Angie K’s new album is set to drop on May 29, 2026, so listen to the end to hear how you can get free UK/AUS shipping on a very special vinyl edition of her new record.
