Episode 123: A Space for Conversation: David Krut in Conversation with Letlotlo Komane

And we are back again listeners! In this episode, David Krut sits down with our latest workshop intern, Letlotlo Komane to discuss her experience working at the David Krut Workshop, as her studies at Michaelis and plans for the future. Letlotlo Komane is a Johannesburg-born visual multimedia artist currently based in Cape Town, South Africa, where they are completing their studies at Michaelis School of Fine Arts. Working across sculpture, photogrpahy, installation and material experimentation, Komane’s practice explores themes of memory, identity, spirituality, loss and cultural inheritance. Drawing from personal histories and cultural practices, their work investigates how materials can carry emotional, spiritual and political meaning. Through the use of concrete, calico fabrics, salt, archival imagery, ceramics and found objects, Komane creates immersive works that reflects on Black womanhood, ancestral connection, safety, trauma, and healing. Their practice often navigates the tension between vulnerability and protection, using materiality as a language through which personal and collective histories can be remembered and reimagined. Komane’s work has been exhibited in group exhibitions, including Interwoven Defiance at Ramushu Art Gallery, where they presented a new iteration of their installation Ke Mo in honour of Women’s Day. Through their multidisciplinary approach, Komane seeks to create spaces that evoke intimacy, reflection, and connection while challenging inherited social and histroical narratives.

Episode 122: David Krut & Diego Masera in Conversation About HOPE/Against the Grammar of Violence

Welcome back! David Krut Podcast is pleased to return with a conversation between David Krut and one of our latest collaborating artists, Diego Masera. In this podcast the two discuss Masera's past, present practice and latest exhibition HOPE/Against the Grammar of Violence [https://davidkrutprojects.com/exhibitions/80569/diego-masera-hope-against-the-grammar-of-violence], opening on the 25th of July at David Krut Arts located at 151 Jan Smuts Avenue. Diego Masera [https://davidkrutprojects.com/artists/80687/diego-masera] is a former diplomat and cultural interlocutor whose work explores international exchange, social dialogue, and contemporary cultural production. Drawing on his background in international development, environmental policy, and work with communities affected by inequality and climate crisis, Masera approaches art as a form of knowledge capable of expressing what political and institutional language often cannot. In 2026, Masera and David Krut had a chance meeting where they found themselves discussing the artist’s practice and his installation, Home – ikhaya, NIROX sculpture park. This encounter resulted in David extending and invitiation towards Masera to come into the workshop and explore printmaking. In March of that year, Masera began his collaboration with Roxy Kaczmarek, working on a body of monotypes and other works of paper.
