Fr Ian Petit OSB (1922-1996), from Ampleforth Abbey in North Yorkshire, England, became a teacher in the charismatic renewal. He gave retreats and spoke at churches of all traditions around the world bringing together Catholic spiritual direction, evangelical preaching of the Gospel, and the charismatic experience of the Holy Spirit.

Teacher, Author, and Benedictine Monk. Born Louis Russell Petit, the son of Christopher and Nina Petit of New Malden, Rev. Father Ian Petit, O.S.B., entered Ampleforth Abbey in 1941, and then left for a period of work and discernment. Upon his return, he professed vows as a monk of Ampleforth Abbey in 1954, and was ordained to the priesthood on March 21, 1956. He was sent to America, where he served and taught at St. Louis Abbey in Missouri for 15 years, until 1971, when he returned to England. He was a leader in the Charismatic Movement and the Catholic renewal, and he led retreats in America, England, and throughout the world. His published works include, "The God Who Speaks" (1989), "This Is My Body" (1991), "How Can I Pray?" (1991), "Your Sins Are Forgiven You" (1993), "You Will Receive Power" (1995), and the posthumously published, "God Is Not Angry" (1997).
