Acerca de Gen Wars Podcast

Welcome to Gen Wars – the podcast where generations collide over cinema and media…and not everyone’s impressed. Hosted by Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine, this is where Gen X nostalgia gets dragged into the cold, harsh light of Millennial judgment, and occasionally survives the roast. Occasionally. Nick and Cam (Team Gen X) are your classic movie die-hards, who grew up on VHS tapes, mall theaters, and movie soundtracks on cassette. Stephen and Katherine (Team Millennials) are catching up on the classics and are here to ask the real questions, like: "Was this actually good?"

Ghostbusters | Millennial FINALLY Watched Ghostbusters…And Still HATES Bill Murray | Gen Wars Review

Who ya gonna call? Apparently Stephen… because the man somehow made it to adulthood without seeing Ghostbusters until NOW. This week on Gen Wars, Nick, Cam, Katherine, and Stephen finally crack open the proton packs and dive headfirst into Ivan Reitman’s 1984 supernatural comedy classic starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Rick Moranis. This paranormal fever dream came straight from Dan Aykroyd’s ghost-obsessed brain and became one of the most iconic movies of the 1980s. Three eccentric scientists lose their university jobs and decide the most logical next step is launching a ghost-catching business in New York City. Naturally, this leads to proton packs, demonic dogs, a haunted refrigerator from hell, and a 100-foot-tall marshmallow kaiju stomping through Manhattan while Bill Murray aggressively flirts his way through paranormal extinction. Totally normal stuff. In this episode:      - Stephen admits (again) he might not actually like New York movies      - Cam declares the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man an official kaiju      - Katherine defends practical effects      - Nick realized how horny this movie is.      - Everyone understands Bill Murray except Stephen      - Stephen continues to build his conspiracy board tying all Gen Wards movies together If you love Ghostbusters, 1980s movies, practical effects, movie trivia, behind-the-scenes filmmaking stories, nostalgic movie reviews, comedy podcasts, Gen X vs Millennial debates, and complete podcast chaos, this episode is absolutely for you. Who ya gonna call? Probably therapy after hearing Stephen’s Bill Murray takes. My Cousin Vinny | Millennial's First Watch...(He LOVED It) | Gen Wars Review

Welcome back to Gen Wars, the generational podcast where Gen X nostalgia throws hands with millennial confusion and this week we’re putting the 90s courtroom comedy classic My Cousin Vinny on trial. Directed by Jonathan Lynn, this cult classic stars Joe Pesci as Vinny Gambini, a loud, inexperienced New York lawyer who has never won a case. When his cousin and a friend are falsely accused of murder in a small Alabama town, Vinny has to figure out how to actually be a lawyer…in real time…iin court…with everyone watching. Alongside him is Marisa Tomei who absolutely steals the movie and won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, plus Fred Gwynne as the judge who is one eye twitch away from losing it, and Ralph Macchio proving he escaped The Karate Kid…sort of. Fun fact: This movie is so tight it’s literally used in law schools to teach courtroom procedure. Let that sink in. What’s in this episode: - Stephen discovers this movie via…TikTok clips. We wish we were kidding. - Why this might be the most accurate courtroom movie ever made - Katherine brings actual legal facts (because apparently this movie is used in law schools??) - The genius of the “miscommunication” storytelling - Cam nitpicks lawyer/inmate realism while still loving the movie - Why every single setup in this movie actually pays off - Nick discusses grits (what is a Grit?) Gen Wars Verdict: - Gen X: “This is a classic. Respect it.” - Millennials: “Wait…this is actually amazing” - Stephen: “This is a 90%. I would not change anything.” (WHO IS THIS MAN??) Why This Movie Still Hits: - My Cousin Vinny isn’t just a comedy - A perfectly structured screenplay - A masterclass in setup/payoff storytelling - A rare example of a flawed main character you actually root for - And somehow…one of the most accurate depictions of courtroom procedure in film Don’t forget: Like, Subscribe, and argue with us in the comments Available on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts & everywhere you consume chaos Follow the hosts: Nick - Firehazard508 Creations www.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creations ko-fi.com/firehazard508creations Stephen - FNKYGames www.youtube.com/@fnkygames https://linktr.ee/FNKY Cam - Never Touching Grass www.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQ twitch.tv/nevertouchingrass Katherine - Spectacle Views www.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww So the real question is… Are you sure you’ve seen this movie…or are you just quoting it from TikTok like Stephen?Chapters 00:00 Intro – Stephen Disappoints Everyone Again 00:36 Welcome to Gen Wars 01:05 Why Stephen Hasn’t Seen Any Movies (Again) 02:09 Plot Synopsis 03:55 Scoring System Explained 04:29 Nick’s Scores 05:06 Katherine’s Score 06:08 Cam’s Score 06:28 Stephen’s Score 07:49 Actually Brilliant Storytelling 08:40 Accurate Courtroom Movier? 10:00 The Iconic Courtroom Scene 11:06 Miscommunication 14:04 Courtroom Realism vs Comedy 17:35 So Rewatchable 19:11 Classic Scenes 21:25 TikTok Moments & Famous Quotes 22:00 Funniest Scenes 23:09 New York vs Small Town 24:06 Casting What-Ifs (Will Smith?!) 26:27 BTS Facts & Budget Discussion 28:26 Box Office Performance 30:58 Details You Missed 32:16 Perfect Payoff 34:24 Cast Deep Dive 40:23 Oscars & Awards 42:54 Final Thoughts 47:15 Where to Watch 48:00 Channel Plugs & Outro #mycousinvinny #moviereview #90smovies #joepesci #marisatomei #courtroom #filmpodcast #FirstTimeWatching #ComedyMovies

The Crow (1994) | Cult Classic or Overrated Goth Fever Dream? | Gen Wars Review

It can’t rain all the time… but apparently it can start a full-blown generational argument. In this episode of Gen Wars, Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine dive headfirst into The Crow (1994), the gothic cult classic directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott, Bai Ling, and Rochelle Davis. Based on the iconic graphic novel by James O’Barr, The Crow follows Eric Draven, a murdered musician who is resurrected one year after his death by a mystical crow so he can avenge himself and his fiancée, Shelly Webster, on Devil’s Night in a fire-drenched, crime-ridden Detroit. It’s revenge, tragedy, eyeliner, rooftop brooding, leather, candles, and enough moody ‘90s energy to power a Hot Topic for eternity. And naturally, Gen Wars handles this movie with all the grace of a crow smashing through a stained-glass window. - Stephen is fully locked into the vibes, the mythos, the aesthetic, and the “this could have influenced half of modern edgy cinema” argument. - Katherine comes in ready to defend the film’s emotional core, gothic style, and cult status. - Cam shows up with the soundtrack praise, production grievances, raven-based outrage, and enough anti-nostalgia smoke to make the comments section catch fire. - Nick lands somewhere in the middle, weighing childhood nostalgia against a harsher adult rewatch, Brandon Lee’s tragic legacy, and whether this movie still hits as hard when you were a brooding teenager. Come for the movie review podcast chaos. Stay for the soundtrack worship, hot takes, brooding revenge discourse, and the absolute confusion of watching one generation defend the vibes while the other starts deducting points like they’re conducting a crime scene investigation. - Who was right on The Crow? - Was this a dark, stylish, influential masterpiece? - A flawed cult classic carried by mood and tragedy? - Or just a D+ for elder goths who never emotionally left 1994? BIG | 80s Moral Whiplash and It's WAY Wilder As An Adult | Gen Wars Review

What happens when a 13-year-old makes a wish to be “big” and the universe says, say less? Pure, unfiltered, 1980s. This week on Gen Wars, Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine jump headfirst into BIG (1988),  the Tom Hanks coming-of-age fantasy that somehow managed to be heartfelt, hilarious, deeply uncomfortable, and a toy commercial all at once. Directed by Penny Marshall and starring Tom Hanks, Elizabeth Perkins, and Robert Loggia, and featuring the most iconic toy-store moment since…well, any toy store has ever existed, BIG follows Josh Baskin, a kid who makes a wish at a carnival fortune-telling machine to be “big.” He wakes up in a 30-year-old body, panics appropriately for about five minutes, lands a corporate job in New York like it’s a casual Tuesday, and somehow nobody in the entire tri-state area thinks to ask even ONE follow-up question. Gen X nostalgia hits HARD, Millennials start asking very loud questions, and Stephen absolutely spirals as the gang debates whether this movie “holds up,” what the movie is actually trying to say, and why no one calls the cops in 1988. Expect arguments about nostalgia bias, toy companies, Zoltar lore, Beast Wars conspiracies, piano scenes, and whether this movie accidentally invented the phrase “blurred morals.” Yes, Stephen is forced to go first, immediately reveals he doesn’t “do cringe” (which is hilarious because this movie tries to KO him in the first round), and spends the episode hovering somewhere between “this was fun” and “my skeleton is entering pre-rigor mortis.” 💥 In this episode, we cover: * The Zoltar/fortune teller machine situation (and why this thing shows up in more places than this movie) * The FAO Schwarz piano scene (yes, it rules; yes, Stephen only knew it from TikTok… we continue the beatings) * The toy company fantasy where being “childlike” gets you promoted in six weeks (corporate America really said: “You seem fun, here’s a corner office.”) * How the movie is shockingly wholesome for long stretches and then suddenly hits you with “WAIT… HOLD ON…” * The very real “this is a rom-com???” debate (Nick is ready with legal definitions, Stephen is ready to combust) We break it down using our patented Gen Wars criteria: nostalgia, production value, spirit, rewatchability, and overall thoughts, then fight about it anyway. Listen if you love: • 80s movies • FAO Schwarz & Giant floor pianos • Gen X vs Millennial debates • Snarky movie podcasts • Questioning your childhood favorites  …this episode is for you. Like, Subscribe, and Comment: Does BIG still hold up, or did we all just get tricked by Tom Hanks and a toy piano? The Fifth Element | What if Die Hard…but louder…and French? | Gen Wars Review

Welcome back to Gen Wars, the generational movie podcast where Gen X drags Millennials kicking and screaming through cinema history and calls it education. This time, Nick, Cam, Stephen, and Katherine tackle the aggressively weird, wildly stylish, and completely unhinged The Fifth Element, aka Luc Besson asking, “What if Die Hard… but louder… and French?” Directed by Luc Besson, this 1997 sci-fi spectacle stars Bruce Willis as Korben Dallas, a future New York cab driver whose day goes from “traffic sucks” to “a genetically engineered supreme being just fell through my roof.” Enter Milla Jovovich as Leeloo, the literal Fifth Element, who can absorb all human knowledge instantly… yet still talks like she just rebooted Windows 95. Throw in Gary Oldman chewing the scenery as Zorg (a villain who looks like a melted crayon with corporate ambitions), Chris Tucker detonating the movie’s tone as Ruby Rhod, and Ian Holm doing priest stuff in space—and you’ve got a movie that absolutely refuses to calm down. This episode gets chaotic. We break down: - Why this movie could never be made today (and why James Gunn is the only man brave enough to try) - Practical effects that still slap vs CGI that politely asks for forgiveness - Opera aliens, magic stones, questionable age gaps, and rehydrated turkey dinners - Stephen declaring war on New York… again - Nick going full Reddit detective We score it using the sacred Gen Wars criteria: nostalgia, production value, spirit, rewatchability, and overall vibes, and somehow land in “this movie is ridiculous… and we love it.” Is it perfect? No. Is it subtle? Absolutely not. Is it a cult sci-fi classic that just sends it for two hours? MULTI-PASS. Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and everywhere podcasts live Watch, like, subscribe, and embrace the chaos.
