Episode 1: Not One More Sister: The Frontline Fight for Our Right to Exist.

In this deeply resonant conversation, we are joined by a dedicated social worker and feminist, Busols Rafiat Ojo-Oba, to unpack the complexities of gender-based violence (GBV) and the systemic barriers to women's safety. We move beyond the statistics to discuss the lived realities of survivors and the critical role that feminist frameworks play in providing not just a voice, but a roadmap for institutional change. From challenging deep-seated cultural norms to navigating the legal and social hurdles of advocacy, this episode explores why embracing feminism is a non-negotiable step toward a more equitable Nigeria and what we all can do to help. SEASON 2 The Bridge & The Battle

Welcome back to Herstory. They promise us that 2026 will be the "Year of Social Development," but for many of us, it has merely been another year of uncertainty and even more alarming danger we face as Nigerian women. Between the headlines from Ozoro and the "Special Seats" bill being stepped down yet again, it’s easy to feel like our safety and our seats are always up for debate. But this season isn't just about the battle; it's about the bridge. We’re sitting down with our mothers and women doing the hard work of saving girls and women from a world bent on subduing them.  We ask the hard questions: How did you find your joy when the system didn't see you? How did you keep your head up when they tried to step you down? How do we fight back and make a difference? If we’re going to build a future where our rights aren't just on paper, we need the blueprints from the women who came before us and those who know better. I’m Anu Onabolu, and this is Season Two. Let’s stop just surviving and start documenting the revolution. Pull up a seat. We have a lot to talk about.   Support the show [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2561222/support] Find out more about Herstory today!  If you'd like to make Herstory too, get in touch with us. https://linktr.ee/herstorypodng

Episode 4: A Mother's Worst Mistake? mourning Oluwasikemi .

Omo, this one is heavy. This week, we are sitting down to discuss the heartbreaking news out of the U.S. involving a Nigerian mother, Gbemisola Akayinode, and the tragic death of her 9-year-old daughter, Oluwasikemi. We’re unpacking the facts of the case, but we’re also asking the hard questions: What happens when the 'village' we rely on back home doesn't exist abroad? We discuss the immense pressure of the immigrant hustle, the mental state required to make such a fatal error, the collective shock rippling through the Nigerian community, and the heavy weight of grief and judgment. Listener discretion is advised. Join us for a difficult but necessary conversation. This episode was produced by Eniola Ewawunmi Busari. Episode 3: Beyond the Taboo: Divorced and Thriving

For many Nigerian women, divorce is still treated as a taboo, a silence that Danielle Ijeoma Onyekwere is here to break. On today’s episode, we explore the nuanced reality of being a Nigerian woman, a divorcee, and a single mother. Danielle gets vulnerable about the isolation that comes when community support fades, the pressure to "keep up appearances," and the sheer exhaustion of working twice as hard to provide for her family. This isn’t just a story about struggle; it’s a story about redefining what a successful African woman looks like on her own terms.  As a Nigerian woman in the U.S. she knows a thing or two about pressure. After her marriage ended, she didn't just survive; she learned how to pivot.  In this episode, we cover: * Overcoming the cultural shame often attached to divorce. * The emotional labor of being the sole provider. * Advice for women feeling trapped by societal expectations. * Financial independence and the immigrant drive. * Finding joy in the chaos.
