Ep. 135: The Howlers '24

It's the end of the world as we know it...and year 3 apparently... This week, Matt and Cody unwrap their favorite episode of the year: The Howlers! The boys talk all about this year in horror including the tops and bottoms of their year-end lists, trends of the year in the genre, and what they hope to take into 2025. Then, it's time for the Awards as they give out such iconic categories as: Barclay's Bronze Baby Bonnet, Sally Hardesty Leap Through a Window, Doomsayer of the Year, Howler's Choice, Fred Gwynne Veteran Character Actor and most contentiously (for some reason) Outstanding Animal. It's their chance to celebrate the films and performances of the year and you for coming along on the journey! Ep. 134: Black Christmas (1974)

Don we now our SLAY apparel! (A green turtleneck)  This week, Cody and Matt celebrate the holidays with this proto-slasher pioneer! They discuss the political and social atmosphere that inspired the film's core narrative, how this movie inspired the genre moving forward, and the art direction that brings the holiday spirit to life. They also praise Bob Clark for hitting the mark, Margot Kidder for being the booziest babysitter, and Marian Waldman for gifting us all with a veteran character performance that will last an eternity. Ep. 132: Oddity (2024)

You've heard of a wooden performance but this is ridiculous.  This week, Cody and Matt begin renovations on their new Irish castle and discover one of this year's most overlooked hits! They discuss clever dialogue, effective narrative threads, and the fine art of weaving different types of horror together cohesively. On top of all that, the boys also discuss what they claim to be some of the greatest scares of the year while debating the usefulness of an Irish hole. That's... not what it sounds like. Overtake! Overtake! This week, Matt and Cody are in the calm before the storm and jumping into the bed of a truck towards the end of the world! The boys talk all about "oners", drug laden youths, and the contagion subgenre, while also having a field day with nosy neighbors, impossible devices, cool cars, and even find time to break out their maybe definitely not French accents. Don't worry, they go all out over theories of the outbreak, the terror of being interrupted at karaoke, and the origins of Al, famously of the Canal.
