Episode 11 SENTEN

Sentence A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete idea. It contains a subject (S) and a verb (V).  The Basic Elements of a Sentence A sentence has two basic elements: the subject and the predicate. The subject is a noun, a pronoun, or a group of words acting as a noun. It is what the entire sentence is about. The predicate contains a verb that describes the subject.  Subject The subject is a noun, noun phrases, or pronoun. Usually, it comes before the main verb. It represents the person or thing about which something is stated. Predicate Predicate can either describe an action that the subject is performing, or a state of being that the subject is experiencing. Examples 1. He/ runs 2. This book/ is heavy 3. I and my friend/ went to the market 4. My dog/ may bite strangers 5. Venus/ is the hottest planet in the solar system  Subject-verb agreement means using the right version of the verb to agree with the subject.  Thanks for listening. Episode 11 SENTENCE PATTERN - AN INTRODUCTION

SENTENCE PATTERN - AN INTRODUCTION In English, the sentences are used in a similar pattern - subject, verb, then object/adjective/adverb. There are five sentence elements. They are subject, verb, object, complement, and adjunct. The subject is the performer of an action. It is usually at the beginning of a sentence. It may be a noun, a pronoun, a noun phrase, or a noun clause. The nice fact about the type of structure is that we are able to know who is doing the action and the outcome of the action. We can list the basic sentence pattern as 1. She/ runs. (SV) 2. You/ have/ a book. (SVO) 3. They/ are/ tall. (SVC) 4. My friend /gave/ me/ a gift. (SVOO) 5. She made him angry (SVOC) 6. I/ sit/ here. (SVA) 7. He/ kept/ the umbrella/ there. (SVOA) Thanks for listening. Please subscribe, like and share the link to the needy students. You can download for listening again and again.
