Emma Lynne Harley

Jordan S Daniel [https://www.instagram.com/jordansdanielofficial/] chats to Emma Lynne Harley about their debut cabaret-theatre solo show, Walking on Eggshells. Note: By the time this episode is available to listen to the Summerhall performances of Walking On Eggshells will have been and gone. You can still catch the show at Paisley Arts Centre on 22nd May. The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the UK. As a writer and performer who simultaneously works in mental health services, Jordan sees the need for this conversation all around the year. Jordan says, 'In perhaps what could easily be the most challenging time globally with conflicts, the arts simply needs to be a space for conversations around the impact of this.' Emma Lynne Harley enters the conversation, bringing their latest cabaret theatre show Walking On Eggshells. Miwa Nagato-Apthorp

Today, Andy Reilly chats to To Miwa Nagato-Apthorp. Based in the Scottish Borders, Miwa’s songwriting draws on folk traditions to explore multicultural understandings of history, climate, womanhood, and home. This chat was recorded in mid April so some of the gigs mentioned are now in the past, though Miwa can be found playing at this year’s Knockengorroch, Kelburn Garden Party, and a special Co-Bill with Lainey Dempsey – at Glad Radio’s ‘Thrown In Sessions’ at The Deep End, in the southside of Glasgow They talk about Miwa recently supporting Eddi Reader, going from playing venues like The Glad Cafe to bigger spaces like the Royal Concert Hall, making each gig feel like a community get together, the joy of collaboration, and the mysterious process of songwriting. Miwa also talks about connecting with different parts of her one whole identity created through place and heritage (Miwa has lived in Scotland for 20 years, was born in London, and has Japanese heritage), and honoring stories by giving them a place in her songs.  If you like these chats and you’d like to support the show, the single very best thing you can do is share it with a friend. So, please do that. If you could give the show a quick 5 star review on your podcast app, that would also help us reach a  wider audience. We hope you enjoy the chat. Carla J Easton

Andy Reilly chats to Carla J Easton about her great new album, I Think I Might Love You.  Carla talks about how it came about that she created her first ‘guitar album’ after all these years focusing on playing keys, an impromptu flight to Nashville invigorating her song writing, being part of a family of incredible women songwriters – what she calls the Sonic Sisterhood. She talks about the girls with guitars who inspired her, including Gem and The Holograms, and staying inspired after 20 years in music. It’s a good, long in-depth chat – they also speak about legacy, what constitutes success, the thread of friendship and much much more. Fun Fact Carla was the cover artist of our first ever magazine back in 2018. She’s also the cover artist on the new issue of SNACK which is out this week.  If you like these chats and you’d like to support the show, the single very best thing you can do is share it with a friend. Portada del episodio Fergus MacDonald of Hank Tree

Fergus MacDonald of Hank Tree

Andy Reilly chats to Fergus MacDonald of Hank Tree about his Hidden Songs project based mostly at The Doublet in Glasgow. They talk about falling into the role of gig promoter. He talks about the origins of the Hidden Songs name and ethos. Taking a holistic approach to gig promotion by looking after the artists, spending time with the acts, eating together, paying perhaps better than acts would get with one of the bigger gig promoters. He talks about the upcoming Hidden Songs gig at The Doublet with Alex Rex / Donna / Hank Tree on 16th April. Ticket link below. They also talk about the difficulties in being an artist or a promoter in this attention economy. They get chatting about the development of Hank Tree and when we can expect the second Hank Tree album. And, can we expect a Hank Tree Scotland World Cup song?
