46. How can a leader be heard?

No matter how vital change may be, those leading it have to be heard if they want others to act to help realize that change. In this episode of The Illumify Game Changer, Jonathan considers how he can break through all of the noise today with messages that others will actually hear. 01:07 Amplify Question 39: What will they hear? 05:22 You have to use your voice. 06:40 The importance of consistency in your messaging. 08:14 When you express your vision, it has to be recognizably the same. There’s integrity to that. 10:00 Building awareness as a building block process. 14:04 Stories versus anecdotes 18:00 When you tell a story, you’re giving them a concrete example of how to surmount an obstacle. 22:25 You can’t be seen to be wavering in your own commitment. 22:40 They need to hear that something is at stake. 24:28 The need to be heard through the noise feels particularly difficult and challenging. 26:28 We build our ability to bend with the wind but not break. 27:44 The language will have to be carefully crafted so it doesn’t scare people. 29:15 We want to be able to contribute, ideally in the way meaningful to us. 31:53 Final Answer Produced by NOVA [https://novapodcasting.com]

Minisode 1:45 – “This is critical to engaging and aligning a collective.” – The Leader’s Strategic Messaging

A leader’s meaningful change doesn’t ignite all by itself. It takes a collective of people thinking and acting consistently and congruently in the ways that realize it. This Illumify Game Changer minisode reveals how to ensure they hear and remember what is most essential to their common awareness of the leader’s change so that they ultimately act in alignment to help fulfil it. 45. The leader’s three essentials

A leader can’t point to a vision of change and tell people, “That’s what it is.” There’s nothing to point to as it doesn’t yet exist. Instead, leaders need to find the words that capture it in the way that helps others begin to see it. In this episode, Jonathan is challenged with identifying the three essential things that people need to know about his vision so he can begin to build their awareness of it. But there’s even more to it, as he discovers. 01:17 Amplify Question 38: What 3 things should they know about this? 04:18 The vision is an attempt to reconcile the private with the public, and why we took the wrong path. 07:16 It’s about creating a new way to live together in tune with our inner selves. What does it mean to be human today. 08:25 It’s not a prescription. It’s a new spirit, a new way of seeing. 10:52 The reason for three. 15:30 A headline vs. key messages. 21:48 Stepping beyond the question with two levels of essentials: Outside and inside the vision. 26:48 What do you want them to do upon hearing your vision? 27:50 A story about what happens when there’s no call to action. 31:40 Key messages are for them to remember and act upon. 36:38 Now I’m thinking more about the audience and what they need to know in order to act. 40:20 First you have to get them on side before they will act. 44:20 Why break with the past? 46:25 This is about the essence of your vision for them. 53:38 No resolution. To be continued. Produced by NOVA [https://novapodcasting.com]

44. The Leader’s Headline for Change

A leader’s ability to convince others to help ignite a change means first being able to get their attention. And that’s no mean feat given all of the noise competing for our attention today. In this episode of The Illumify Game Changer Podcast, Jonathan is tasked with creating a headline that would cut through that noise enough to pique some initial interest. 01:10 Amplify Question 37: If you could write a headline for this significant change, what would it be? 06:00 It’s time to heal and build again. But rise is better. 09:00 After putting pen to paper, 4 headline options. 09:44 “Finding each other again.” What does that look like? 14:57 The sense of reciprocity is very important. 19:26 Since change is incremental, your headline can begin with an increment of your vision and then take them beyond. 21:38 “Let’s break with the past and return home together” is very interesting. 23:55 Finding the balance between comforting and reassurance and something more rigorous and demanding. 28:50 Final Answer. 31:00 The difference between raising awareness and reminding them.
