The Master's Voice with Murali Maddala, Asia Pacific Regional Leader, Technology Services, Johnson & Johnson. Our today’s guest is from a different world. A different planet! And, the reason I say he is from a different world, is because, he is from a large, multinational organization unlike other guests so far on this podcast. Murali is the Asia Pacific, Regional Leader for the Technology Services team at a wonderful organization called, Johnson & Johnson where he has been for the last 11+ years. And, he is based out in Singapore. Before J&J, Murali has been with organizations like Motorola, Dell Technologies, and Netkraft, where he built the team from scratch and grew to several hundred. He built delivery centers, transitioned technology processes from different countries, and created centers of excellence. Murali is one of those leaders whom I really admire and respect a lot. Humble, caring, empathetic, people centric, and goal-driven are the adjectives that come to my mind when I talk of him. He always sets a high bar for himself, supports and develops his team, and believes in driving accountability. A wonderful leader to work with! In this episode, I try to bring out some of his methods, experiences, learnings, advice on scaling, leadership, leading people, and other people challenges that startup founders, leaders, and other professionals may find useful.

S1E7: The Master's Voice with Atul Shinghal, Founder, CEO Scripbox on Building an Organization, Importance of Culture, How to Hire and more

Welcome to another episode of The Master’s Voice. And, we have another successful serial entrepreneur in this episode. Our today’s guest calls himself an accidental entrepreneur! And, has accidentally founded and scaled two successful start-ups -- Scripbox and Probe Information Services (both well-funded by leading VCs in the world). I am delighted to have Atul Shinghal on The Master’s Voice! In his previous life as a “corporateur”, if that is a word, Atul held leadership positions at Coats Viyella, Standard Chartered, Old Mutual, and Capital One. He spent over 15+ years in building businesses in South Africa, UK, and India and has expertise and experience in taking companies from 10 to 100 and beyond. After 2 stints in building new businesses as an intrapreneur, Atul started his entrepreneurship journey with Probe Information Services in 2010. Probe is now the leading provider on Corporate Information in India. Later, in 2012 he founded Scripbox. He started Scripbox as he felt strongly that India deserved better than what was on offer for the common investor. You can learn more about Scripbox by visiting their site -- www. scripbox.com Atul is an alumnus of Mayo College, IIT Madras, and IIM Bangalore. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and actively mentors a number of start-ups, including being involved with NSRCEL. He is also a regular speaker at various Fintech and entrepreneurship forums. Atul is a straightforward and direct speaker, and I had a great time talking to him and learn some very simple, practical, and actionable inputs on building an organization, the importance of culture, how to hire, how to manage and develop people, and how to take care of all these things to scale up your startup.
