Vegan Radio

Vegan Radio

Podcast de Veganica

Vegan Radio is a show about vegan culture; animal rights, healthy diet, food and lifestyle, and how they fit into the broader issues of environmentalism, spirituality, politics, and social justice. We bring an entertaining and sometimes humorous perspective to the subjects of diet, animal rights, arts, media, and personal ethics in a global world. Vegan Radio aims to be a show that omnivores will enjoy as much as vegetarians and vegans, to help raise these connected issues in a way that doesn't put people off. We often feature a musical guest.

106: Vegans Dating, Dating Vegans

Episode 106 contains four interviews focused around the subject of dating as a vegan. Recorded on Valentine's Day, Derek is without a co-host, and the show begins with his poetic monologue on finding love as a vegan. Derek recorded the first interview with Anne Dinshah at the 2012 Vegan Spirituality Retreat [http://www.veganspirituality.com/] in Philadelphia. Anne is the daughter of American Vegan Society [http://www.americanvegan.org/] founders Jay and Freya Dinshah, and the author of Dating Vegans. The second interview is Ian MacDonald, a BBC-trained radio producer and author of The Vegan Option [http://theveganoption.org/] radio show and blog. He is hosting a kickstarter project [https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/veganoption/vegetarianism-the-story-so-far-a-radio-history] to raise money to fund a 15-part audio series called Vegetarianism: The Story so Far - A Radio History. Ian gives us the low down on the vegan dating scene in London. We also honor the recent passing of Rynn Berry [http://responsibleeatingandliving.com/?page_id=1131], who was a NYC based vegan historian. The third interview is with Ben Shaberman [http://benshaberman.com/], the author of The Vegan Monologues [https://amzn.to/2QQim8B]. Ben has a new book that he is shopping around to publishers called Jerry's Vegan Women. The book features short fictional stories centered on relationships and influences that various women have on the protagonist. Ben narrates a portion of the book at the end of the podcast. The final interview is with Leigh-Chantelle, who runs Vivalavegan.net [http://vivalavegan.net/], a web site that provides easy-to-prepare recipes, blogs, articles, podcasts, interactive forum, informative and how-to videos, interviews with inspiring vegans, vegan mentoring e-books, print books and more. Leigh lives in Australia and provides us the female perspective on dating down under.

102: PeTA co-founder Ingrid Newkirk

Episode 102 features Derek's interview with PETA [http://peta.org/] President and Co-Founder Ingrid Newkirk after her Naked Truth [http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/archive/tags/the+naked+truth/default.aspx] event here in NYC. Her work over the decades has saved millions of lives with education, activism, and media stunts. You can hear her talk about the most recent campaign Never Be Silent which explains that it is our duty as compassionate humans to speak for those whose voices are ignored and misunderstood. Ingrid offers up tales of animal intelligence and use of language and questions our quest for intelligent life in the cosmos when we haven't truly attempted to communicate with intelligent beings on our own planet.
