Ep. 3: Youth Activism

As social issues like climate change, racism, homophobia, human rights abuses and so on become more prominent, young people insisting on having their voices heard are becoming louder, with young activists emerging globally. Trinity and Shada take on the topic of youth activism for episode 3 of the podcast, discussing barriers to being a young advocate, managing the burdens that come with being involved in youth activism, as well as performative activism and how that plays into the advocacy work young people choose to participate in. We care 2  also welcomes Firdaous, an emerging young activist who has led many protests and rallies and whose activism centres around anti-racism and anti-colonialism. Firdaous is able to provide insight into what it's like to be a young activist as well as ways to avoid falling into the trap of performative activism as a young advocate. We end the episode with some tips from Firdaous for young people wanting to get involved in activism but not knowing where to start. School is a major focus in the lives of many young people, and often the cause of many pressures that emerge among young people. This week, Shada and Trinity take a closer look at these challenges, discussing parental pressure, reliance on continuous productivity and letter grades, as well as the pressure to pursue post-secondary education.  Our guests, Fatima and Indira also join us in this episode to give insight into their own experiences with school and the pressures they've felt at each different stage of the education experience. We end the episode with some guidance and insight to help cope with all the pressures revolving around school and transitions to post-secondary, looking for the silver lining. Ep. 1: Social Media

As we grow increasingly dependent on social media as a tool for connection, a centre for news, as well as a primary source of entertainment, young people feel increasing pressure to maintain a presence on social media. Join Trinity and Shada in this episode as they discuss this increasing pressure as well as the harmful impacts such as beauty standards, overstimulation, desensitization and more that emerge in our daily lives.  We Care 2 also welcomes our guest for the episode, Ella, to provide insight into her own personal experience using social media looking at both the negative and positive in her life. We conclude the episode with action items and pledges of self-care to help us cope, manage, and reduce the harmful effects discussed.
