Today’s guest is surgical oncologist Dr. Jeffrey Farma. He is truly “Temple Made”. A former Temple University Medical Student, he went to Temple for his general surgery residency, and now he’s at Temple Fox Chase Cancer Center where he is the Chief of the Division of General Surgery, Co-Director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program, and the Program Director for the Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship. Last year he was admitted to the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. We talk with him about his passion for surgical oncology, breakthroughs in immunotherapy, what it was like caring for cancer patients during the pandemic, and more. He is a man who loves the many dimensions of his job as a physician. (Note: this episode was recorded on November 2, 2021) Instagram: @narrativesofnorthbroad Twitter: @NarrativesofNB

Today we are speaking with Dr. Noah Levinson, a neurologist at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Levinson is a born teacher, and shares with us today his path to medicine, his interest in the brain, his decision to pursue neurology, and what he loves about teaching students and residents. He recently was the attending on my neurology rotation, and we'll talk about some of the firsts I experienced alongside him. Having a patient die, delivering bad news, and getting close with a patient. That and more, from his bird-watching to beer-brewing. Dr. Beard has a background in public health and has been devoted to trying to reduce the amount of gun violence in Philadelphia. She talks today about her path to medicine, her passion for public health, and how she responds to the emotional challenges of seeing such suffering every day. On this episode, medical student Hank Davis, and the Director of Narrative Medicine, Michael Vitez sit down with Dr. Oneida Arosarena. She is an otolaryngologist at Temple and Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion. We asked her all about what the last year has been like for her, both as a surgeon and physician working during the pandemic, and in her role as Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at a time when the pandemic has shown so clearly the inequality in our city and country. Dr. Arosarena is a graduate of Johns Hopkins for her undergraduate and medical degrees. She did her residency at University of Michigan in otolaryngology, and a fellowship at the University of New York Upstate in facial plastic, reconstructive, and craniofacial surgery. In our conversation, she told us about what excites her most these days working at Temple and shared a wonderful story about a patient she will long remember.
