Jeremiah 30-31

Book by Book February 21, 2024 Jeremiah 30-31 “Chapters 30–31, together with Jeremiah 32–33, are often called the ‘Book of Comfort’. The main theme is a message of hope for those going into exile, a hope which is also expressed in the preceding chapter (29:10–14).[1]” “most of the book’s messages of hope are found in chaps. 30–33, called collectively the Book of Consolation or the Book of Comfort. These chapters have been placed in the midst of mostly biographical material. They anticipate a restoration of Israel to God’s favor and a return of the people to their homeland.[2]” IX. Jeremiah 25-26

January 31, 2024 Book by Book Jeremiah 25-26 This week, we read the Lord’s warnings for those who are listening to the #FalseProphets. We also read about Jeremiah’s trial. This trial is most likely a response to Jeremiah’s sermon against the nation and leaders in ch. 7. Jeremiah’s case is simply, “The Lord called me and compelled me to speak.” The elders spare his life. But not every prophet is spared as we learn about the fate of Uriah.  Outline 02:21 - Judah’s Refusal to Listen to the Prophets 25.1–7 05:19 - Seventy Years of Punishment 25.8–14 15:00 - The Cup of God’s Wrath 25.15–29 22:39 - God’s Coming Judgment on All Nations 25.30–38 The Temple Sermon and Its Consequences 26.1–24 28:30 - Summary of the Sermon 26.1–6 31:23 - Arrest and Trial of Jeremiah 26.7–19 37:30 - Arrest and Slaying of Uriah the Prophet 26.20–23 40: 34 - The Release of Jeremiah 26.24 Outline from F. Huey, Jeremiah, Lamentations [https://ref.ly/logosres/nac16?ref=Bible.Je25.1-7&off=4&ctx=(1)+~Judah%E2%80%99s+Refusal+to+Listen+to+the+Pro], vol. 16, The New American Commentary (Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 1993), 223 ff.  Reading from The New International Version [https://ref.ly/logosres/niv2011?ref=BibleNIV.Je25.1] (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), Je 25:1–26:24.
