Easeful Conversation with Tanya Lynch

Hi! Welcome to Episode #4 of the Great Little Podcast! I’m super excited about my guest this month and was so delighted when she agreed to speak to me for my (still very new) little Podcast! I had her listed as one of my “dream guests” for the show and really didn’t expect this to happen so early on in the FIRST series! Anyway, I’ll stop “fan-girling” and get on with it. Without further (embarrassing) rambling… Introducing, the kind, supportive and simply fabulous Tanya Lynch [https://substack.com/profile/28746943-tanya-lynch]! Guest Profile - Tanya Lynch * Business: Ease Retreats * Substack: With Ease – www.tanyalynch.substack.com [https://tanyalynch.substack.com/] * Podcast: The Bibliotherapists [https://open.spotify.com/show/6Q1rs0R9lAi6UGJX2o5wyb?si=14090a5c58544964] (with Toni Jones [https://substack.com/profile/42470594-toni-jones]) * Instagram: @easeretreats [https://www.instagram.com/easeretreats] * Website: www.easeretreats.com [http://easeretreats.com/] * Online Programme: Rage on a Page: [https://tanyalynch.substack.com/p/5aed8886-8e9e-4363-ba15-54eda378610f] Which has been absolutely life changing for many of Tanya’s students. Retreats: “Recently described in The Times [https://www.thetimes.com/travel/destinations/uk-travel/seven-of-the-best-uk-writing-retreats-0snw235p0] newspaper as one of the seven best unique retreats in the UK for aspiring writers.” Mission: “To encourage as many women as possible to channel their emotions into something more positive and creative through the practice of therapeutic journalling”. Day to Day Life: “Hosts writing & wellbeing retreats with best-selling authors, coaching therapeutic journalling workshops and most recently a podcast called The Bibliotherapists [https://www.easeretreats.com/podcast] with fellow Substacker Toni Jones [https://substack.com/profile/42470594-toni-jones] - founder of The Shelf Help Club [https://shelfhelpclub.substack.com/about].” Intro: My guest this month is someone who I still can’t actually believe said yes to coming onto my new little podcast and she was actually on my list of “dream guests” - a list I thought I might get to one day.. a long time in the future! But, I got brave… asked the question and she said YES! Which just shows, if we can allow ourselves to be vulnerable at times and open ourselves up to rejection, it can actually work in our favour. Tanya Lynch writes“weekly musings, short essays and therapeutic journalling prompts” on her Substack Publication “With Ease [https://tanyalynch.substack.com/]”, where she publishes a Sunday Newsletter – with Book & article recommendations, journaling prompts & news on her retreats. Ease Retreats [https://www.easeretreats.com/] is Tanya’s business, where she runs writing & wellbeing retreats, which she co-hosts with best-selling authors and expert creatives. Something she says she still pinches herself about… getting to collaborate with the likes of Emma Gannon [https://substack.com/profile/1347124-emma-gannon], Clover Stroud [https://substack.com/profile/171347314-clover-stroud] and Laura Pashby [https://substack.com/profile/92022222-laura-pashby]… just to name a few. Tanya says she is, “passionate about supporting and helping as many people as possible, to keep a consistent journalling practice and encourage aspiring writers in her community to write their book, even if it doesn’t get published!” Tanya loves everything to do with journalling, visiting bookshops, attending writer events, discovering new authors and being by the coast. You can usually find her at the beach near her home in Wales, with her two Ridgebacks and her bare feet firmly in the sand. I really enjoyed my chat with Tanya and any residing nerves soon dispersed as we relaxed into our conversation with Ease. Thank you Tanya ❤️ Our Chat: Our conversation went in many delightful directions - as is often the case with two potential ADHDers - but we held our shit together and (almost) managed to sit still for the entire hour! Amongst our many tangents, we discussed how we can often be discouraged to dream, but also how letting go of the “norms” and “ideals” in life can be hugely beneficial and freeing. I was blown away by Tanya’s confidence about having “no regrets” in life and the level of acceptance and peace she has is truly inspiring and refreshing! ❤️ We talked about our battles with certain insecurities, which can still result in toxic habits, such as; people pleasing, comparison, needing to be highly productive at all times and guilt while resting. We discussed Tanya’s previous career in Radio and her experience of getting ahead in a male dominated workplace. Her business “Lynch Pin”, where she provided affordable PR and encouraging women out of their shell. The crash of 2008 hit Tanya hard, when she lost her home and her business and hit rock-bottom. However, her resilience and gumption got her through, as she took one next right step at a time, towards a new career as a magazine executive. Tanya shares some of her favourite journalling techniques and we discuss the benefits and potential pitfalls of picking too much at old wounds. We also talk about Tanya’s gorgeous dogs - the ridgebacks - who have endured some little wounds of their own. The difficulties we encounter (as women in particular) with people-pleasing and feelings of never quite doing enough. The added pressure of being an only child and how that impacted Lauren’s need to succeed and make her family proud. Needing time alone and the struggles we both feel with making that known and/or asking for help. We touch on the importance of not carrying everyone else’s feelings and the complications of being able to let go of some of them. Episode #2 with Amy Beeson

Hey! It’s been a little over a month since the last episode of my ‘Great Little Podcast’ landed I’m afraid (not that anyone noticed, I’m sure) 😆 I will endeavour to keep a more reliable monthly schedule in future. 😇 My Guest This Month Amy Beeson My guest for this month’s episode is the wonderful, kind and talented writer Amy I Beeson [https://substack.com/profile/38687081-amy-i-beeson]. I first met Amy at a Substack event in London and sometimes see her at her own Substack meet-up events, that she now organises herself. Amy is warm, friendly and kind and so welcoming at her events. She doesn’t leave a single stone un-turned and always ensures everyone feels comfortable and knows exactly where they’re going and what to expect. If you haven’t already been, I highly recommend attending one of Amy’s events. Amy has had three books published by Harper Collins and has a Substack called I Need to Finish This Before I Die [https://amyibeeson.substack.com/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=substack_profile], which is a mixture of memoire, audio, branding tips and book chat. Amy lives in West London with her husband (who is also a writer), their two children and two cats. She loves reading, yoga, tea, The Archers, walking in the woods and hosting parties. She also runs a small (pocket sized) Communications Agency – ‘Wordsby Communications’, which helps clients with brand development, communications strategy and marketing. When I announced my Podcast, Amy was keen to come and share her first-hand experiences of growing up in a small village and attending a strict Catholic school and how this has impacted her life. Whilst simultaneously having a devoted and supportive mother, who valued her opinions and allowed her to be her own person. Which thankfully balanced the scales and gave Amy the tools and determination to become a confident and successful woman, who knows her worth. 💛 Mentions Amy’s mum: Sarah Beeson MBE (1951-2023) – Worked as a nurse in Hackney and Kent in the 1970’s Sarah Ockenwell-Smith: Author of the parenting book - “How to Raise a Teen” London Feminist Network – Research Paper – Study of women and their experiences of inappropriate/unwanted advancements from men. Amy’s Books 1. Our Country Nurse: Novel based on Sarah Beeson (Amy’s mum) 2. The New Arrival: Memoire about Sarah training as a nurse at Hackney General Hospital 3. Happy Baby, Happy Family: Amy asked her mum for new baby tips, which ended up as a parenting book, using knowledge Sarah had gained from her 40 years of working with families – “Nurturing, practical and refreshingly honest” I really enjoyed my chat with Amy and I hope you will enjoy listening to our conversation. Look out for the next Substack event organised by Amy, she really is the most kind and thoughtful host. 🥰 See you next time! 💛 Great Little Insights is a reader-supported publication. Episode #1 is Here!

Hi Guys!! Episode #1 is here at last! Just in time for the weekend - Yay! 🎉 Having now realised just how much is actually involved in the editing process, I think we’ll make this a monthly thing! 🥴🤣 My Lovely Guest Today I’m joined by one of my favourite people on Substack – Jo Hutton [https://substack.com/profile/102126080-jo-hutton]. Jo offers a combination of live classes and has an extensive on-demand library, as well as guided 1:1 classes as part of her “Happy Yoga Community” [https://happyyoga.substack.com/?utm_source=global-search]membership. On Substack she has “Yoga for Tired People” [https://happyyoga.substack.com/?utm_source=global-search] where you can access a wonderful selection of short, bite-sized videos with achievable yoga sessions, massage tutorials and meditations. Jo is a real advocate for supporting people with a vast range of abilities and since discovering her on Substack, I have done more yoga than I had in years, due to the bite-sized videos that I can access whenever I feel like it. Knowing that they’ll be manageable and effective and won’t take too much time out of my busy schedule. Doing 5 or 10 minutes a few times a week, is better than not making it to the longer classes and beating myself up about it. Our Chat During our conversation we discussed many topics, that went off on some interesting tangents. We got talking about Jo’s business and how that came about. We also found ourselves delving into the perceived labels we adopted as children and how that has impacted us throughout our lives. Jo opens up about her experience of discovering she has dyslexia, which lead to some interesting discussion about those who go through life with undiagnosed neurodivergence’s. We also touch on our struggles with believing we have to do everything without asking for help, particularly as women raised by strong feminist parents. Also, briefly discussing Jo’s decision to not have children of her own. With quite a few giggles along the way, particularly when we discussed how we connect with (or detach from) our bodies through Yoga Nidra or meditation… I really enjoyed our chat and hope you will too. "Warm Up" Episode!

Hi Everyone! It’s here at last! I hope you enjoy this warm up episode prior to Series #1, which will be coming in the next couple of weeks. 👍 *Friendly Warning* This conversation is a bit “sweary” at times and the subject matter becomes quite “grown up” at around 23 minutes in - Perhaps not one to listen to on the school run! 😉 In this episode you can hear an off-the-cuff, raw and honest chat between me and my gorgeous Substack friend Lisa Bolin [https://substack.com/profile/5401212-lisa-bolin]. Our chat went in several directions, including covering topics such as the way we talk to ourselves and others, how we feel about our bodies, social etiquette around nakedness, the porn industry, discussing sex with teenagers, other parenting experiences and (of-course) all that we are enjoying about Substack!
