North Sound Voices brings experiences, ideas, and solutions from across the North Sound region to you. We believe in the wisdom of our region. We believe that our communities know what they need – and are demonstrating resilience every day. And we believe we are stronger together. When we listen to and learn from each other, we can do more than we ever could alone. Listen to this podcast to feel connected, inspired – and proud to call the North Sound your home.North Sound Voices is based out of northwest Washington State: Island, San Juan, Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom counties, home to eight Tribal nations who have inhabited this land since time immemorial: Lummi Nation, Nooksack Tribe, Upper Skagit Tribe, Samish Indian Nation, Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians, Tulalip Tribes, and Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe. This podcast is produced by North Sound ACH, a nonprofit where collaborative learning is prioritized, crossing traditional jurisdictional boundaries, and looking upstream to tackle issues that impact health. Equity in Action: Reframing Self-Care

Self-care is a broad and well-meaning term, but what does it mean to different populations? For folks that have gone through the criminal justice system, who have substance use problems, for people of color, for people who suffer domestic abuse – how can we approach self-care in a way that makes a real impact? Kevin P. Henry is joined by Samira Sumbundu, a mental health case manager in Snohomish County. She shares about her day job at a mental health court, how you can practice proactive self-care, and advocating for your boundaries when you need a break. Samira and Kevin also discuss relationship-building as self-care, recovery from crises, and balancing distraction and dependence.  Resources: * Connect with Samira on LinkedIn [https://www.linkedin.com/in/samira-s-477835a0/].  * Learn about mental health, therapeutic, or family treatment courts in the North Sound: * Whatcom [https://www.whatcomcounty.us/1700/Mental-Health-Court] * Skagit [https://www.skagitcounty.net/Departments/SuperiorCourt/specialtycourts/specialtycourtsmain.htm] * Island [https://islandcountywa.gov/193/Court-Program] * Snohomish [https://snohomishcountywa.gov/5976/Mental-Health-Court] * San Juan [https://www.sanjuancountywa.gov/861/Behavioral-Health-Programs] * Box Breathing video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEmt1Znux58&t=27s] Learn more about North Sound ACH: https://northsoundach.org/ [https://northsoundach.org/] Resource Library: https://northsoundach.communitycommons.org/ [https://northsoundach.communitycommons.org/] Questions?
