The Three Weeks pt. 1: Learning to Long Again

It is so easy to survive the darkness by adopting a radical optimism that ignores my own brokenness, or to become consumed by tears of anger when I face the pain of this world. Yet, the profound invitation of this season is to learn how to sit with the raw, undefined ache inside me and transform it into tears of longing. When I close my eyes in the midst of my personal pain and shut out the immediate distractions, I am able to focus on a vision of wholeness that feels impossibly far away. Pinchas: Channeling the Eyes of the Cohen

It is so easy to feel unworthy after I stumble, believing I am defined by my mistakes and inner darkness. Yet, through the counting of the Jewish people and the covenant of peace given to Pinchas, I learn that Hashem looks at me and sees only my pure, holy spark. To be counted is to be reminded that my unique name profoundly matters, and that I am completely surrounded by Hashem's love. It is so easy to view my spiritual life as a checklist of obligations, leaving me feeling distant or broken when I inevitably make mistakes. Through the lens of Parshat Balak and the true meaning of being the "chosen people," I learn that true Avodat Hashem is not about flawless performance, but about maintaining an honest, living relationship with my Creator. Chukat: The Primordial Mother of Return

The most profound healing begins with the realization that the remedy was prepared before the wound even existed. Just as a mother lovingly descends into the mess of her child to bring cleanliness and order, the mystery of the Parah Adumah reveals a Divine love that is willing to meet me in the "dirt" of my own mistakes.
