Ep. 3 What it Means to be a Product of Your Environment

This episode focuses on what it means to be A Product of Your Environment and gives examples that counter-attack the idea that "there is always a choice." I use examples of: how kids in lower income neighborhoods grow up with violence and how that adrenaline effects how they grow up compared to children in more affluent neighborhoods. Thus showing that not everyone has the same opportunities. Another example that I give is in regards to positive and negative self fulfilling prophecies and how that plays a role in the development of youth in either positive or negative environments. Lastly I give and example of how the police generalize people of color and how people of color generalize police as well. I explain why this is problematic and leads to the composition fallacy.   #terministicscreens #echochambers #massmedia #media #cnn #foxnews #poc #peopleofcolor #blm #blacklivesmatter #protests #communication #wordsmatter #manipulation #perspective #perception #productofyourenvironment #selffulfillingprophecy #negativeselffulfillingprophecy #compositionfallacy #egocentricphilosophy #socio economic discrimination #theresnotalwaysachoice

Episode 2: Terministic Screens (Language in the media covering protests/immigration)

In this episode, I talk about Terministic Screens and how language and word choice tell us about how people perceive and make sense of the world. Examples given include: illegal alien vs undocumented immigrant, good people vs thugs, and riots vs protests/rebellions. (I explain how the media, as well as individuals, use language to either aid or critisize certain "groups" of people.   The examples used serve as a great way to explain how terministic screens tell us about our personal standpoints, as well as the standpoints of others. Most importantly, these screens also help us understand and dissect the language that is currently being used in the media to describe the recent protests!   #terministicscreens #echochambers #massmedia #media #cnn #foxnews #poc #peopleofcolor #blm #blacklivesmatter #protests #communication #wordsmatter #manipulation #perspective #perception

Episode 1: Echo Chambers (in social media and news channels)

In this episode, I talk about Echo Chambers and the role that they play in our lives on both the conscious and subconscious levels. I explain how these chambers effect our perception of ourselves, our reality, and our perspective of others. Examples include: CNN, Fox News, Instagram This episode uses news outlets and social media algorithms as the examples to clarify the concept. At the end I also give tips that not only raise consciousness and personal awareness, but that help you identify potential echo chambers you may be trapped in! Ultimately, the end goal is to help you have a better understanding of yourself and others. Thus, creating a better and more aware version of yourself.   #echochambers #massmedia #media #cnn #foxnews #communication #wordsmatter #manipulation #objectivetruth #subjectivetruth #intersubjective #perspective #perception
