The Tit Trial: Napoleon and the Pope vs Vivienne Westwood

The breast: giver of life, target of shame, symbol of rebellion. But who actually owns it? In this episode, fashion history goes on trial.... quite literally. We begin above the clouds, in a celestial courtroom where Vivienne Westwood stands accused of crimes against tradition, decency, and power itself.  The prosecutors? An unlikely alliance: Napoleon Bonaparte and the Pope. What follows is a sharp, darkly humorous dialogue about nudity, control, revolution, and the most contested body part in fashion history. Once the heavenly verdict looms, we descend back to Earth to unpack what’s really on trial: ✨ the politics of the female breast ✨ From prehistoric fertility goddesses to Minoan priestesses, from Egyptian linen gowns to corsets of monarchy, from Revolutionary France to slavery in the United States, and finally to punk runways and Instagram censorship - this episode traces how the breast has been revealed, concealed, claimed, censored, and reclaimed across time and place. Through the lens of fashion psychology, sociology, and material culture, we explore: * Why societies decide when breasts are sacred, sinful, political, or fashionable * How power - religious, state, patriarchal - has historically controlled the female body * Why moments of revolution tend to undress the breast, while conservative eras cover it * How designers like Vivienne Westwood turned exposure into strategy, protest, and art * And how race, class, media, and technology complicate the idea of “liberation” Who gets to decide what women show, hide or own?  🎧 Expect theatre, history, provocation, and uncomfortable questions.  📸 Visual references mentioned in the episode will be shared on Instagram.  💬 Listen closely - then ask yourself: in your society today, how free is the breast really? Fasten your seatbelts. This is a bumpy ride. Cleopatra and Marie Antoinette Spill the Tea About Kim Kardashian, #LeisureClassGoals

What happens when Cleopatra and Marie Antoinette spill the tea on Kim Kardashian? A witty, fictional roundtable turns into an exploration of conspicuous consumption, the leisure class, and what our spending habits say about our souls and personal style. In this premiere episode, we serve satire with substance—starting with a cheeky imagined convo between history’s most iconic It Girls and ending with real talk: How can insights from philosophers like Thorstein Veblen and modern psychology help us reclaim our relationship with money, status, and personal style? Whether you’re a soft life enthusiast or just tired of impulse buying things you don’t even like—this episode is your guilt-free guide to personal style, self-discovery, and the sometimes messy joy of wanting things.  ------------------------------------------------------------------- Instagram Profile: The Fashion Amateur Podcast  [https://www.instagram.com/the_fashion_amateur_podcast/] -------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits: People: * Cleopatra: Sissy * Marie-Antoinette: Zoe Music: * Egyptian Music: on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/track/2VV5O4ewokmtQjXfGcXBCl?si=eabe04b5387e4a78&nd=1&dlsi=3ebcfa82f23c4e34] The Gem: * Orsola de Castro on Fashion News: Instagram Link [https://www.instagram.com/reel/DF2OblVIVCs/?igsh=QkFGejVRUHYwYw%3D%3D] Books: * Fashion Psychology by Carolyn Mair * Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman * The Theory of the Leisure Class by Thorstein Veblen If today’s episode hit you personal sweet spot between cheeky and deep, follow and review to let me know you’re into it— and I’ll keep serving. ✨ You can keep the conversation going on Instagram @the_fashion_amateur_podcast [https://www.instagram.com/the_fashion_amateur_podcast/#]  (https://www.instagram.com/the_fashion_amateur_podcast/)
