Kim Silver left home to join the U.S. Army as a young man and served three years, and his service includes Desert Storm. Chanda Walker, North Carolina Army National Guard

Chanda joined the North Carolina National Guard at 19 years of age and gained experience serving and growing in discipline as she served stateside as well as in Bagdad in Operation Iraqi Freedom, from 2009 to 2010. I had the privilege of asking my dad a few questions about his military service in the Army in 1950s Germany. His memory is not what it used to be, and we used a photo album to help him remember. Drew Gray, Texas Army National Guard

Drew Gray is currently serving as a chief warrant officer two with the Texas Army National Guard. He joined as soon as he could following 9/11, when he was 17 years old. Drew has been deployed to several places overseas and also served stateside after Hurricane Katrina.
