Episode Ready or Not! Cover

Ready or Not!

I have something to share. In the fall, I will be the parent to a middle-schooler. I don’t know how this happened. I want to go back to notating the contents of diapers and trying to interpret different cries and facial expression. Or when my child was thoroughly entertained by undoing my baby-proofing efforts, crawling on a dirty floor, or even some light cleaning. I wasn’t navigating the digital life of teens and trying to prepare them for all that’s out there. I don’t really want to return to those times. I was so very tired. However, in hindsight, the tasks of baby and toddler care feel so practical and straightforward. (This is where I pause to say to those who are reading this and are still in the phase of having babies and toddlers, this viewpoint comes later, like way later, when you are no longer there. When you are in it, it’s 1,000% overwhelming!) But now I have a tween. Deep sigh. Am I ready for this? *I am an affiliate of bookshop.org. Episode You Don’t Have to Laugh Instead of Cry Cover

You Don’t Have to Laugh Instead of Cry

The use of humor can be characterized as a defense or avoidance of difficult topics. And that definitely happens, but in my experience, humor has allowed me to be right next to the hard stuff. A laugh can be like a nightlight in the dark, giving off enough light to help you avoid the sharp edges of the furniture.
