Mehr Along for the walk.

Immersive coastal and countryside walks, in Cornwall’s forgotten Corner.Join me as we wander together across the wild open spaces; exploring South East Cornwall’s coastal paths; Public right of ways; cliff tops; long windswept sandy beaches; rocky coves; peaceful hamlets; parklands; wooded permissive paths and river banks.Aiming to capture the sights/sounds/smells and atmosphere of this ever changing landscape, through all weathers and seasons. The intention of this podcast is to enable anyone - especially those who are unable to get out for a walk physically, due to poor health; mobility issues or any other reason - the opportunity to feel as though you are out in the fresh air; alongside me on a walk, in defiance of your physical circumstances (and - at times- tricky terrain or bad weather) plus you don’t even need to tie up your laces!Let yourself escape outdoors and capture the "in the moment" sense of simple exploration; discover natures amazing little normalities and the calming and therapeutic benefits that a walk, - especially a walk on or near the Cornish coast- can bring. So, relax your senses, calm your mind and escape with me to Cornwall's wild and forgotten corner.A quick note: I started this podcast having been inspired by my wonderful Mum and others like her, who due to ill health are either temporarily, or no longer able to get out as freely as they used to and really struggle with that.I wanted to help them escape their current situation and find some relief; by transporting them into and alongside me on a walk, to feel connected once more with the calming benefits that walking outdoors can bring. So why not come Along for the walk...let's just go!If you enjoy your walk and feel able to do, please support via clicking or pasting the following link. buymeacoffee.com/alongforthewalkOr, access the "support" link button via the public website. https://rss.com/podcasts/along-for-the-walk/ Thank you.

Whitsand Bay: an early morning walk down the the steep and scenic cliff path, to sit on Tregonhawke beach and hear the waves

Join me on an early morning walk, as we we descend the steep cliff path down to Tregonhawke beach, Whitsand Bay, South East Cornwall Before anyone stirs, we quietly pass by the small, wooden, cliff top chalets, winding our way through the gorse and heather-lined path to reach the top of the steep steps, from where we can admire the vast expanse of blue sea stretched out before us and peer down to roofs of the lifeguard station and the empty Eddystone beach cafe and holiday let. We catch our first glimpse of the sun hitting the small stretch of sand at Tregonhawke beach. The tide is in and we can can hear the waves below. Once on the beach, we find a sturdy rock to sit on by the waters edge, and look out to see what we can see. We are the first there so have it all to ourselves, along with the wildlife. Mount Edgcumbe: Banks of the Tamar. View across to Plymouth from the Cornish shoreline plus exploration of a hidden slipway, Garden Battery, and cove of barn pool beach.

Join me for a calming walk, along the banks of the River Tamar in Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, South East Cornwall. Looking out across the salty tidal waters that divide the counties of Devon and Cornwall, to view Mutton cove, Mount wise, The Royal William Yard (Plymouth) and Drakes Island. We can explore the shoreline, hidden slipway and vaulted garden battery; then walk across the gravel path to the picnic lawn and shingle/pebble cove at barn pool, where we can try our hand at skimming stones across the clement waters. Episode Exploring the rose scented formal gardens of Mount Edgcumbe. Britain's Historic Park by the sea. Cover

Exploring the rose scented formal gardens of Mount Edgcumbe. Britain's Historic Park by the sea.

Walk alongside me, as we take a peaceful stroll from the orangery, passing by the mermaid fountain in the Italian garden, and up through the many layers of gardens, plants, birdsong, and hedged archways. Smell the lemony scents drifting through the Rose garden and feel calm as we walk down through the ferns, to the gently lapping barn pool beach. Mount Edgcumbe Country Park and Estate is a free park to be enjoyed by all, on the banks of the river Tamar (opposite Plymouth Devon) along the remote coastline of the Rame Peninsula, in South East Cornwall. The Original House was built nearly 100 years before the Mayflower set sail in 1620 and was the former home of the Earls of Mount Edgcumbe. It's 865 acres offers something for everyone: from Follies to mystical woodlands; secret beaches; cycling trails, gentle paths discovering camelias, artwork; a historic House, gardens and workshops; even survival wisdom and adventure activities. There is so much for us to explore! You can arrive by boat, bus, car or by foot, even via the South West Coastal Path. But why not travel their with me and come for a wander through its peaceful gardens - as amazingly we have it all to ourselves. Episode Rame Head to St Michael's Chapel & Look Out. Cover

Rame Head to St Michael's Chapel & Look Out.

Join me, as we wander out and clamber up onto the look out point, at the -now derelict- St Michael's chapel; on the tip of the Rame Head Peninsula; a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For many, this rocky peninsula was the last sight of home that local sailors and explorers saw when leaving Plymouth and the first, if and when they returned home. Rewarding and awe inspiring view of the Devon and Cornwall coastline and one where the open sea stretches out to join the big skies; you can literally see for miles and feel connected with it all.
