Episode E07 What Works on Social Media Now, A History - Dan Peterson Cover

E07 What Works on Social Media Now, A History - Dan Peterson

INTERVIEWING SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING'S DAN PETERSON In today's episode, I'm talking to Dan Peterson. Dan owns a social media marketing firm. We go through pretty much an entire history of social media starting from 2010 going up until present day. And I thought it to be a really fun educational topic. EXPERTS DISCUSSING THE HISTORY OF SOCIAL MEDIA Drake: Dan Peterson has been in social media for just shy of eleven years. Next month marks the anniversary of his first social media birthday. We'll talk about his experiences. WHAT DID GROWING UP IN A FAMILY OF ENTREPRENEURS TEACH YOU Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs taught him a lot about work ethic. His digital agency was designed to plug holes and to give entrepreneurs some kind of solution. Now, almost eleven years later, Flipswitch is a success. THE CHALLENGES OF SMALL BUSINESS MARKETING Marketing was one of the big holes that I noticed as I got older. Small business owners don't have infinite pockets, deep pockets for anything. I wanted it to be a thing where they're over the moon ecstatic that we're helping them. Just the other day, I got an email saying that's exactly why I do this. HOW TO SELL SOCIAL MEDIA TO YOUR BUSINESS A lot of small businesses don't have a good website. Having some kind of Google Analytics in place to track where this traffic is going. Bad websites are very prevalent nowadays. Have someone else check your website out from a third party friend or family member. HOW TO MANAGE SOCIAL MEDIA EFFECTIVELY Business owners started thinking that they could do their own social media and they could be really good at it. Now there's so many pages, so much to do. The best thing business owners can do for themselves is to educate themselves. HOW TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA EFFECTIVELY IN THE 2020S The whole game of social media really, it's all just attention and how fast or how much you can get your audience to pay attention to you. If you are unable to generate attention, then you've got nothing. One good takeaway is to reverse engineer what you're doing and look through the lens of your customer. GO ORGANIC Go organic as much as you can. If you go hyper local and you build an audience and nurture that audience at an organic level, you don't have to spend as much on ads. Make sure that you have a goal in mind for the ad, not just a boost, and show it to everybody. FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, TIKTOK All of these platforms are starting to merge their methods and their audiences. Instead of being social media, it's more interest based media. The transition from social to interest based is going to be a really interesting paradigm shift for brands and marketers. SHORT FORM VIDEO HAS CHANGED THE WAY VIDEO PRODUCTION IS MADE Short form video has changed the way video production actually happens. On a small scale, now we're starting to see a swing back from professional video. Five years from now it's going to be even more so where what is a professionally produced video? HOW TO ATTRACT TALENT THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA With all these boomers retiring and the labor shortage intensifying, how am I putting out content to attract workers? Companies are going to have to attract talent based on their culture, leadership style, vibe. It's a really interesting time for employers and they better get their heads on straight.

He's talked to tons of experts and gotten their opinion on thought leadership. I think you're gonna like this one. NICKY BILLOU ON BECOMING A THOUGHT LEADER Nicky Billou is one of the foremost leaders in the world on becoming a thought leader. He was originally an immigrant from the Middle East, a Christian from Iran. He says freedom requires free expression and free enterprise to stay alive. THOUGHT LEADERSHIP AND MARKETING A thought leader is someone who's known for knowing something. When you become a thought leader, you're known for what you can do for others. You need to speak to how you solve problems for people and then you make a profit. AI's thinking is anything but original. THINK LEADERS: THE ROLE THEY'LL HAVE Being a thought leader is going to be very big, especially over the next decade. What's going to make you stand out is connection with the actual person who is either running the organization or who is your contact in the organization. You're going to have to go out of your comfort zone. HOW TO DOUBLE YOUR BUSINESS IN A YEAR Yeah. More than doubled his business three years in a row. And that is really what you need to do as a thought leader. Most of the things we buy are getting rid of some form of pain. When you're out there and gaining the thought leadership. HOW TO USE PODCASTING TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS Have you used podcasting to grow your business? Over a period of eight months, I generated well over $330,000 in revenue from being a guest on a show. There's a whole strategy involved in picking the right shows. THE SOVEREIGN MAN Sovereign Man: How has hosting the podcast and creating a show helped you? He says podcasting is predicted to grow from as a $1 billion industry last year to over 4 billion this year. If you don't know how to monetize a podcast, that can be a problem, he says. PODCASTING: PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT You can't do it alone. You need to be mentored and coached. If you ever want to double your income in any given year, you have to triple your investment in personal and professional development. Successful people invest in themselves. TONY ROBBINS: THE 4 TRAITS OF SUCCESS There are four characteristics everybody has to have if they want to win in life or in business. Successful people are decisive. You need to be a disaster before you can be a master. How resourceful are you? How bad do you want change? THE WEIGHT LOSS DEAL Bob Greene was broke and needed money to see his sons. He offered a deal of a lifetime half price, but there was a catch. In six months, he made six figures. He paid them off early. HOW BAD DO YOU WANT CHANGE? How bad do you want change? I want to change badly. Are you part of Generation Soft? Are you one of these people who just dreams and doesn't do anything. If you want changes, you'll take action. And if you don't, you won't. HOW TO CREATE A PERSONAL BRAND You need to focus on serving others, not yourself. People who are not compelling are soft. You need to resign from Generation Soft and join Generation Hard. I got a whole program and process to show people how to create their thought leader brand. ONE WOMAN'S FIGHT TO GET OUT OF THE BOOT Five years ago, I was introduced to a woman who ran one of the world's largest personal and professional development firms. After a year or so, their visions of the future diverged and they clashed. Her board sided with him and kicked her out. Which one of your guests do you think was the most interesting? HOW TO HELP A SINGLE WOMAN SAVE HER FAMILY And it looked like we were going to break up and I was going to lose my precious, beautiful family. She said, you helped me save my family. That's the power of an authentic conversation. What's the best way to get in touch with you and connect with you?

Episode E05 How a professional algorithm developer is changing the commodity markets Cover

E05 How a professional algorithm developer is changing the commodity markets

NOAH HEALY ON HOW CORE DISK WILL BUILD A BETTER COMM In today's episode, we talk to Noah Healy, founder of Core Disk. Core Disk is trying to build a better commodities market. Markets are actually artificial intelligence machines that are centuries old. The commodities market right now with supply chain constraints. INTERVIEW WITH CORE DISK'S FOUNDER We've got Noah Healy, and he's the founder at Core Disk. When we got connected, I saw a professional algorithm developer and mathematician. Thanks for having me here. HOW ALGORITHMS GOT TO YOU "Needing a supply of food is what got me to where I am today " The easiest industry to get jobs in in the year 2000 was. startups. He says he has a natural facility for various parts of algorithms. There were plenty of false starts and errors along the way. POST-GRADUATION: THE NEED FOR COMPUTATION SKILLS Most powerful thing you can do with computers and with tasks is to develop programming languages. A lot of what I do is automating internal company processes, building languages around them. We're starting to see people foraying into this with the Chat GPT thing. AMAZON'S IMPACT ON THE MARKETS Amazon is one of the premier users of computational resources on Earth today. Now they're able to take that computing power and put it towards robotics, towards logistics, towards anything that's predictive. That completely changes the game for how we put our societies together. ECONOMIC NOISE AFFECTS THE MARKETS markets in present design are positive feedback systems. As the financial markets mature and you get into algorithmic trading, bots, stuff like that, it further exacerbates it. The more chaotic the markets are, the worse things are. HOW TO FIND CONSENSUS IN THE INTERNET I was interested in the problem of finding consensus in a networked scenario. There's a lot of work that's been done on how consensus and communication can happen in networked or unreliable circumstances. I think it's probably got some actual applications, and it's something I'd like to think about. CO-OP INNOVATION: WHAT'S THE PROCESS There are a handful of people attempting to set up markets that incorporate the technology. The technology is also there's some code that's up on GitHub that's under a Creative Commons license. I'm also fighting with the patent Office about getting a patent in the United States. ARE COMMODITIES BEING SET UP ON A BLOCKCHAIN? I am consulting with a couple of people who are trying to set up blockchain projects. The commodities market right now with supply chain constraints that are coming down the pike with the economy. By putting this in, the hope is that it increases the transparency allows.

Episode E04 - Secrets to Create the Perfect LinkedIn Profile - Naomi Johnson Cover

E04 - Secrets to Create the Perfect LinkedIn Profile - Naomi Johnson

Naomi Johnson, a LinkedIn profile expert, embarked on a unique journey to become a specialist in her field. She began her business as a life coach in 2005, but faced challenges in 2008 as a solo entrepreneur. This experience prompted her to write a book detailing her mistakes and collaborate with a friend running Marketing Help for Coaches. Johnson then completed a course called Key Person of Influence and was headhunted to sell LinkedIn training, focusing on small businesses in partnership with LinkedIn. Johnson had the opportunity to provide LinkedIn profile reviews for top CEOs, utilizing a technique to obtain their personal telephone numbers. Dissatisfied with the company's direction, she shifted her focus to small businesses, successfully booking numerous profile reviews. Johnson attributed this success to people's interest in self-improvement and performance insights. She engaged with 20 individuals weekly, discussing their LinkedIn profiles. While working for a company assisting people with LinkedIn profiles, Johnson noticed many clients did not follow her advice. Consequently, she left her job and started offering profile-writing services. Her business quickly grew, and she realized the importance of a strong call to action and motivational elements to encourage clients to connect over the phone. Johnson began offering tailored packages and hourly services to meet individual needs. After helping a client with their profile, Johnson discovered the client lacked ownership of it. To address this, she introduced a coaching program and business-building techniques, assisting clients in achieving a return on investment. Recognizing that one day of social selling training was insufficient, she divided the training into two sessions with a three-week interval, allowing for implementation. Ultimately, Johnson realized her role went beyond education, as she facilitated transformation and empowered clients in the process.
