Looking Ahead: Asia’s Global Impact

Over the course of this special series recorded live at AVPN’s 12th annual Global Conference in Hong Kong, we’ve touched on a variety of themes—from inclusion to leadership to global challenges. And we’ve heard from a number of voices across the continent on how impact philanthropy can unlock new solutions to Asia’s most critical needs. In our final episode, we’re going to look ahead at the potential for future investment in Asia to take projects that once seemed impossible to scale or implement and make them reality. Dispanadda Diskul, the CEO of Mae Fah Luang Foundation in Thailand, and Laila Mostafa Abdullatif, the director-general of Emirates Nature-WWF, to hear how involving local communities is crucial to successful climate policy. Inclusion in the Asian Context

We hear the word “inclusion” a lot, but what does it mean in practice? And what does it mean in the context of Asia, a continent home to thousands of languages and cultures?  On today’s episode, host Rob Sachs takes a deep dive into this concept of Asian inclusivity from various points of view. Leading Social Investment in Asia

This September, around 1,500 people from the world of business, investment, and policy gathered in Hong Kong for the 12th annual AVPN Global Conference.   AVPN is the largest network of social investors in Asia, consisting of more than 700 organizations spanning 43 countries. Its mission: increase the flow of both human and financial capital to maximize social impact. Today, we begin our four-part series on impact investing in Asia by focusing on leadership. Specifically, we’ll be asking, what defines Asian leadership, and how does it differ from approaches in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom? We’ll also look at how infusing mission-driven purpose with investing can lead to meaningful change.  Host Rob Sachs discusses this topic with AVPN CEO Naina Subberwal Batra and later Brian San, the secretary-general of the Institute of Philanthropy, which was established through a seed grant from the Hong Kong Jockey Club and its Charities Trust. This September, around 1,500 people from the world of business, investment, and policy convened in Hong Kong to look at how philanthropy can not only strengthen but also supercharge the ability to address some of the world’s biggest issues. This was the 12th annual AVPN Global Conference, presented with host partner Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. AVPN, originally called the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network, is Asia’s leading network of social investors. It consists of more than 700 organizations spanning 43 countries. Its mission is to increase the flow of both human and financial capital to maximize social impact. Over the course of three days, more than 100 sessions were held as well as numerous occasions for networking and idea sharing. The message was clear: Focused Asian leadership leads to real results. In this special four-part series, we’ll hear some of the key themes emerging from the conference, from climate to gender equality to health and beyond.
