Steve Fowler and the hypnotic Lexus vents

This week, Jack and Cam are joined by legendary car journo, Steve Fowler. The former Editor of Whatcar, Autocar and Auto Express brings to the Carfession booth his adoration of automotive theatre, cats eyes and - perhaps surprisingly - self-driving cars, before delving into his hatred for temporary traffic lights, improper indicator etiquette and car design w*nk (his words). Car's James Dennison has had enough of launch control

Car magazine's James Dennison steps into the Carfessions booth with three loves and three hates for Jack and Cam to mull over. James kicks things off with his love for sim racing (if it's good enough for Max Verstappen, right?), which fuels his second love: his MG ZR racing car. His final love, however, is entirely different, and that's the clever ways manufacturers implement buttons to turn off ADAS. Then, it's onto the hates, starting somewhat controversially with his dislike for launch control. That moves neatly onto his hatred of half-arsed car mods, before ending on everyone's obsession with manual cars. Jack, Cam and the Mercedes G-Wagen thunk

Jack and Cam step back into the Carfessions booth with a fresh batch of loves and hates. It's Cam turn to kick off the loves, now that he's finally able to talk about his secret trip to Germany to see the new Porsche 911 Turbo S (that's the 992.2 for geeks), talking about all the secret cars he saw testing there. Jack, meanwhile, feels good about the direction of car interiors, and has brought along a list of listener-picked concepts to go over. The hates kick off with a love, as Jack's not sure whether he's a fan of the Mercedes G-Wagen or thinks its pants. Cam, on the other hand, proclaims his hatred of people willing to risk parking fines so that they can put their car wherever they want. And while he doesn't hate concours events, he's not sure if he's all that keen on them. The Canada-based Brit and one half of automotive superchannel, Throttle House, James Engelsman joins us in the Carfession booth this week to share his loves of pairing music with driving, the drive to a car event and online auctions. We then explore his deepest loathings: the utter randomness of bonnet latch placement, the stabby thing cab drivers seem to do with the accelerator, and the "ensh*tification" of everything. Jack, Cam and the VW Cali camper van

Fresh from his holiday, Jack's now a camper van convert having spent the last week and some 1,200 miles in the Volkswagen California. Cam, meanwhile, has fallen in love with the TWR Supercat and screaming V12 it's housing up front. Jack's noticed that Brits are properly good at passing each other on a narrow country lane, and Cam's finally found something he likes about Vauxhall. Onto the hates, and Cam's fed up with the lack of service stations (well, toilets) outside of the UK's motorway network and both are more than a little cheesed off that they didn't get to visit this year's Monterey Car Week.
