Episode 13.8 Happy at Home: An In-depth Study of the Beatitudes. Week 8: Blessed are the Persecuted Cover

13.8 Happy at Home: An In-depth Study of the Beatitudes. Week 8: Blessed are the Persecuted

In this episode we look at Matthew 5:10–12: “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” This teaching explores one of the most challenging truths in the Sermon on the Mount: living like Christ will often bring opposition, rejection, and misunderstanding. The very qualities we’ve studied throughout the Beatitudes: humility, mercy, purity, and peacemaking don’t always make us popular with the world. In fact, Jesus says they may lead to persecution. This is both encouraging and challenging. If you’ve ever felt misunderstood, rejected, or criticized because of your faith, Jesus reminds us that we are walking the same path as the prophets and the early followers of Christ. And according to Him, that path is not a sign of failure, it’s a mark of a life that belongs to the kingdom of heaven.

Episode 13.6 Happy at Home: An In-depth Study of the Beatitudes. Week 6: Pure in Heart Cover

13.6 Happy at Home: An In-depth Study of the Beatitudes. Week 6: Pure in Heart

Continuing the week-by-week Beatitudes study with Matthew 5:8: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”  Purity is not about perfectionism or outward rule-keeping. Pure in heart means clean, unmixed, undivided. A heart posture that is wholly devoted to God. Jesus goes straight to the source: not just behavior, but motives, thoughts, desires, and emotions, because what happens outwardly always flows from what’s happening inwardly. This is not about legalism and “external religion,” but the reality that God wants our hearts, not just our performance. The promise attached to this Beatitude is deeply personal: the pure in heart “shall see God.” Not everyone experiences the same depth of closeness, because intimacy is cultivated through obedience, surrender, and an undivided loyalty to the Lord. God gives new hearts, but we must cooperate through discipline, prayer, and ongoing surrender. I challenged you to evaluate what you're feeding your minds: entertainment, social media, conversations, and private habits. Drawing from Philippians 4:8, are you dwelling on what is pure? Or are you cultivating discontent, distraction, and compromise?

Episode 13.5 Happy at Home: An In-depth Study of the Beatitudes. Week 5: Showing and Receiving Mercy Cover

13.5 Happy at Home: An In-depth Study of the Beatitudes. Week 5: Showing and Receiving Mercy

In this we continue walking verse by verse through the Beatitudes with Matthew 5:7: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” After laying the foundation of humility, repentance, meekness, and hunger for righteousness, we now see what naturally flows from a heart transformed by God, mercy. Mercy is compassion in action, love that moves toward someone in need, suffering, or sin. While grace is receiving what we don’t deserve, mercy is not receiving what we do deserve. Mercy withholds judgment. It forgives. It steps in. It acts. At the same time, mercy is not ignoring sin, excusing wrongdoing, enabling bad behavior, or denying justice. True mercy upholds truth while responding with compassion. We first see mercy in the character of God, He reveals Himself as merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. Mercy is not just something God does; it is who He is. We then see mercy fully displayed in the person of Jesus, who forgave sinners, healed the broken, touched the unclean, and restored the outcast. Finally, mercy is meant to be expressed through us. Those who have received mercy are called to extend it.
