His research focuses on issues related to global food regime and agrarian change in developing countries. We discussed why the current global food system is bad for producers of food, consumers of food, and the planet. We also discussed the impact of COVID-19 on the global food regime and alternatives to this system including smallholder production.

Kate is a professor in global environmental governance and global waste politics at the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management at the University of California in Berkeley.
