Episode Heather Elvis Victim Tribute | She Is More Than a Missing Person Cover

Heather Elvis Victim Tribute | She Is More Than a Missing Person

Heather Rachelle Elvis was only twenty years old when she disappeared from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, during the early morning hours of December 18, 2013. While her disappearance became one of the nation's most recognizable missing person cases, this tribute isn't about the investigation. It's about Heather herself—a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a young woman who was still discovering who she was meant to become. Originally featured in our Dark Dialogue episode "Vanished in the Darkness," this standalone Victim Tribute honors Heather's life, her family, and the enduring hope that one day she will finally be brought home. Featuring the original tribute song: "What I Leave Behind" by the JJ Hawk Band If you have any information regarding Heather's disappearance, please contact the Horry County Police Department. Episode Candace "Candi" Hiltz Victim Tribute | Comfort in the Night Cover

Candace "Candi" Hiltz Victim Tribute | Comfort in the Night

Candace "Candi" Hiltz was only seventeen years old. A gifted student who taught herself calculus at eleven, earned acceptance to Stanford at sixteen, and dreamed of serving on the United States Supreme Court, her future appeared limitless. Instead, on August 15, 2006, Candace was murdered inside her Colorado home while caring for her infant daughter. Nearly twenty years later, her family is still searching for justice. In this standalone Dark Dialogue Victim Tribute, we set aside the investigation to remember the remarkable young woman behind the headlines—her intelligence, compassion, determination, and the life that should have been. Featuring "Comfort in the Night" by the JJ Hawk Band, this tribute honors Candace's memory and recognizes the unwavering strength of her family, who continue their fight for answers. Episode Rocky Mountain Reckoning Season One Finale | Looking Back Before the Hunt Begins Again Cover

Rocky Mountain Reckoning Season One Finale | Looking Back Before the Hunt Begins Again

Season One has come to an end. Before the hunt begins again, John and Angela take one final look back at the investigations, the victims, and the journey that turned Rocky Mountain Reckoning into something far larger than either of them expected. Together they revisit the cases that changed them, discuss investigative mistakes that still haunt them, explain how their research process has evolved, answer listener questions, and reflect on the victims who continue to demand answers. From Amy Wroe Bechtel and Lisa Marie Kimmell to the many Jane and John Does who still wait to be identified, this episode is about far more than reviewing a season. It's about why these stories matter—and why the search continues. As Season One closes, the conversation turns toward the future... Season Two is coming. Hunted & Cornered A darker season. A heavier sound. New investigations. New interviews. New stories buried across the Rocky Mountains. Because eventually... Everyone runs out of places to hide. In this episode • Looking back on every major Season One investigation • What surprised us most • How our investigations changed our opinions • Behind the scenes of our research process • FOIA requests and investigative roadblocks • Listener questions • The future of Rocky Mountain Reckoning • A preview of Season Two If you enjoy our work, you can help us continue investigating forgotten cases. Episode Amy Wroe Bechtel Part 4 | The Reckoning Cover

Amy Wroe Bechtel Part 4 | The Reckoning

After nearly three decades, one question remains: What does the evidence actually support? In the concluding chapter of our four-part investigation into the disappearance of Amy Wroe Bechtel, we step away from speculation and apply the same evidentiary standard to every major theory. Was Amy the victim of a wilderness accident? Did investigators correctly focus on her husband Steve Bechtel? Or does the available evidence point more convincingly toward a stranger-offender encounter? Together, we examine the unidentified vehicles and witnesses on Loop Road, the investigative opportunities lost during the critical first seventy-two hours, the overlooked alternative pathway involving Dale Wayne Eaton, and the accumulated evidence that continues to shape one of Wyoming's most enduring mysteries. This episode is not about proving a suspect. It is about following the evidence wherever it leads—and honestly acknowledging where it does not. Because the purpose of an investigation is never to prove a theory. It is to discover the truth. In this episode: • The unidentified vehicles and witnesses on Loop Road  • Evidence lost during the earliest hours of the investigation  • The overlooked stranger-offender pathway  • Dale Wayne Eaton's relevance—and its limitations  • A side-by-side evaluation of every major theory  • What the evidence supports after twenty-nine years  • What Amy's case teaches about investigative tunnel vision Victim Tribute This episode concludes with a tribute to Amy Wroe Bechtel, accompanied by "Down The Road" by The JJ Hawk Band, honoring Amy's life rather than the mystery surrounding her disappearance. Episode Susan Jean King & Kyle Breeden Part 1 | A Case Gone Cold Cover

Susan Jean King & Kyle Breeden Part 1 | A Case Gone Cold

In October 1998, 39-year-old Kyle "Deanie" Breeden disappeared from Shelbyville, Kentucky. Ten days later, his body was recovered from the Kentucky River. He had been shot twice in the head, his legs bound with a guitar amplifier cord, and a homicide investigation was underway. This episode isn't about proving who committed the murder. It's about understanding how a homicide investigation is supposed to begin. In Part 1 of this three-part Distilled investigation, we examine Kyle's life, his relationship with Susan Jean King, the evidence available to the original Kentucky State Police investigators, and the investigative decisions that ultimately led them to conclude there was not enough evidence to charge anyone. We also explore the legal standards of reasonable suspicion and probable cause, why those standards matter, and why stopping when the evidence runs out is one of the most important responsibilities an investigator has. Because sometimes the most important question isn't who investigators suspected... It's why they ultimately chose not to move forward. Part 2 examines what happened when the case was reopened seven years later and asks a difficult question: What happens when an investigation stops following the evidence and starts following a conclusion?
