Members Reviews: Retelling of an important part of the War in Asia Of all things anyone may experience that may leave a lasting traumatic effect on an individual, it is the experience of war. In her debut novel Mary Lynn Bracht writes a pivotal tale of two Korean sisters that were at the thick of things during World War II in Japanese annexed Korea. Events that occurred in China after 1937 also affected the citizens of Korea and women that became Comfort Women to Japanese soldiers in their own country and forced to brothels in Manchuria, China. The story is about sisters Haenyeo âHanaâ and Emiko âEmiâ and the two worlds that they lived as young girls but became separate after 1942. The novel is their story and the young women that they befriended, especially Hana who would go through an ordeal that one could not ever imagine. Based on the aftermath of World War II and Korean women, Bracht also, writes of their stories and the symbol that is the Statue of Peace. Bracht intersects the lives of Hana and Emi through time and place â in the past 1943 and the present from 2011 to 2017. Through flashbacks and the most intimate detail of memorable and not so memorable moments, the year where their lives will stop being normal and they become separated. Members Reviews: Engaging story I enjoyed this story very much. The characters were believable and the epilogue answered myself question about where the inspiration was born. I cannot say I didnt like the narrator. She gave each person a very good voice. But something in her speech pattern, or high notes, bothered me. I was not able to listen in one start but that is not so bad.

I've enjoyed this author's previous books, but this was a bore. In the dedication, the author thanks an editor who "rescued this from the slush pile". It should have been left there, or at least been given a MAJOR rewrite. I'm sorry to be cruel, but this was really dull.

In Hearts of Resistance, that pull was very strong. From the prologue to the very end, I was drawn into the lives of Sophia, Hazel and Rose. These three women exemplified what it meant to be a survivor during a time of war and hatred. All of them were of such strong character; I know that the story is considered fiction; however, the attention to detail and to history of the time was spot on. Ms. Lane has written another heart wrenching, heart warming story that brings to life three women who must endure and survive.

Members Reviews: TRULY astounding narration! As always, Bernard Cornwell writes a fine story, although this time without his trademark battle scenes. What makes pop, though, was some of the best narration I have heard in over 4,000 audiobooks! A New Series? A Great Story I always look forward to Cornwell's novels, particularly the "Last Kingdom" series, so I was a bit apprehensive about "Fools and Mortals" set in Elizabethan England. The novels begins somewhat slowly as the characters are developed. However, once the plot comes into its stride the story takes off and I found it hard to stop listening. A really fun story, great narration. thank you high school English lit. teacher thank you English lit teacher. forcing Shakespeare on me made this read enjoyable. I could focus on the authors story, and made shaksphere more alive. accidently gave poor review. sorry but somehow listened to only first and last chapter. You can imagine my disappointment when it ended.
