Title: Peter and Wendy (AmazonClassics Edition) Author: J. M. Barrie Narrator: Karen Cass Format: Unabridged Length: 5 hrs and 21 mins Language: English Release date: 01-30-18 Publisher: Brilliance Audio Genres: Classics, World Literature Publisher's Summary: The Darling children of Bloomsbury have a secret. His name is Peter Pan, a mischievous night visitor who's somewhere "betwixt and between" a boy and a bird and who refuses to grow up. When Peter invites young Wendy and her two brothers to follow him back to his Neverland home, an adventure beyond any bedtime story unfolds. A world apart from its innumerable renditions, sequels, and spin-offs, Barrie's Peter and Wendy is a strange, beautiful, dark, and complex fantasy about the "heartless innocence" of children, the bittersweet longings of adult nostalgia, and the realities and fears of growing up. AmazonClassics brings you timeless works from the masters of storytelling. Ideal for anyone who wants to read a great work for the first time or rediscover an old favorite, these new editions open the door to literature's most unforgettable characters and beloved worlds. Revised edition: Previously published as Peter and Wendy, this edition of Peter and Wendy (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions. Members Reviews: Great children's book I started binging on all the books I should have read as a child. This one, I feel, would be best if read TO a child rather than have them read it themselves. Its good storytelling and enjoyable. Five Stars Beautiful illustrations by Trina Schart Hyman. Growing up is hard to do This is a story about a surprisingly new way to enlighten children with reference to growing up, and Wendy found that out when she was two. Growing up was a way of life. We can't stay young forever. But there was one boy who had defied that logic. Peter Pan was that boy. Wendy was the oldest of three children in the Darling family. John came next, then Michael. There was also a nurse. A Newfoundland dog named Nana, who knew sign language. One night as Peter Pan followed Tinker Bell, a tiny fairy, to the Darling home, looking for his shadow, he found it hidden in a drawer, and was trying to put it back on with soap. Who or what hid his shadow? Was it Nana or Mrs. Darling and why? About that time Wendy woke up and was startled by him being there and offered to help him. After coming up with a surprising trick the shadow stuck. Once Peter heard what a wonderful story teller Wendy was he wanted her and the boys to come to Neverland and tell her stories to the other children. He told her it was a magical place filled with adventure and where a child would never grow up. So the three children followed Peter to Neverland. But while they were there, bad things began to happen, like adventures with pirates and indian attacks. Wendy and the boys began to miss home and wanted to go back. But after a little while they began to forget about home and their parents. Will the three children ever make it back home again, or will they have to stay forever in Neverland? These and many more questions will be answered once you read "Peter Pan," a wonderful book written for children of all ages. It will feed your imagination, because there was one unique thing that Peter Pan could do that no other young person could do. He could fly. The format was well done. Liked the book also. I had never read Peter Pan and was surprised by how dark it is. I enjoyed it more than I have the presentations by Disney and others. The companion works by the same author about Peter Pan are included and I liked them as well.

Episode War and Peace 1 Audiobook by Leo Tolstoy Cover

War and Peace 1 Audiobook by Leo Tolstoy

Title: War and Peace 1 Author: Leo Tolstoy Narrator: Ella Porter Format: Unabridged Length: 15 hrs and 6 mins Language: English Release date: 12-31-17 Publisher: Audioliterature Genres: Classics, World Literature Publisher's Summary: "War and Peace" (1869) is a classic novel by Leo Tolstoy, which is regarded as a central work of world literature and one of Tolstoy's finest literary achievements. The novel chronicles the history of the French invasion of Russia and the impact of the Napoleonic era on Tsarist society through the stories of five Russian aristocratic families. Volume One begins in 1805 in Saint Petersburg, at a soirée. The plot moves to Moscow, contrasting its provincial, more Russian ways to the more European society of Petersburg. The story continues at a country estate, and then Tolstoy describes the impending Russian-French war preparations. The major event in the book is the Battle of Austerlitz, portrayed as an early test for Russia, which ended badly because the soldiers fought for irrelevant things like glory or renown rather than the higher virtues which would produce, according to Tolstoy, a victory at Borodino during the 1812 invasion. ©2017 Audioliterature. Translated by Dole (P)2017 Audioliterature Members Reviews: Best edition I've seen I have, at various times, tried to read four different editions of War & Peace (Penguin, Signet, Barnes & Noble, and now this) and by far, this is the best edition I've seen. This edition is everything I was looking for in a copy of War & Peace and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Pros: It is highly readable. Translating texts is always difficult, because you want to retain the feel of reading a Nineteenth century work but use language that makes the work accessible. Personally, I found some editions (Barnes & Noble, Penguin) to be hard to read and comprehend, especially when you first begin. This edition is a relative breeze to read. It has French translations. When reading the Signet edition, I found myself using google translate to understand sentences or phrases left in the book in French. Other editions translated most of the French but left phrases here and there untranslated and in the text, without footnotes. I understand in the original, Tolstoy wrote entire passages in French but provided translations in the foot notes. This edition follows that pattern. There are entire passages in French, but they are translated in the footnotes on the page. It has historical end-notes and an index. I am not unfamiliar with European and Russian history, but I, like most people, have no more knowledge than what I learned in my freshman world history class. This work has end notes in the text to provide context. Though it slows me down, I find myself flipping to the back of the book and reading every end note when the text provides it. I cannot stress enough how helpful this has been. The index is likewise helpful. It is an alphabetical list and short biography of the historical characters and places mentioned in War and Peace. It includes a short chapter summary. At the very end of the book, there is a chapter summary for a collection of chapters sharing a theme or describing the same event. The summary is no more than a sentence long and provides a nice refresher when you are trying to recall what happened when. Cons: Compared to editions that translate all the French, reading in the footnotes can be burdensome. I personally don't mind, but I can see how that might trip some people up. If you are looking for a copy of War and Peace, this is the one to get. Trust me. Not Quite Fiction. Not Quite History. Not Philosophy.

Episode Mosses from an Old Manse Audiobook by Nathaniel Hawthorne Cover

Mosses from an Old Manse Audiobook by Nathaniel Hawthorne

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/279/ [https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/279/] to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: Mosses from an Old Manse Author: Nathaniel Hawthorne Narrator: George Doyle Format: Unabridged Length: 18 hrs and 41 mins Language: English Release date: 12-25-17 Publisher: Audioliterature Genres: Classics, World Literature Publisher's Summary: Many of the tales collected in "Mosses from an Old Manse" are allegories and, typical of Hawthorne, focus on the negative side of human nature. Hawthorne's friend Herman Melville noted this aspect in his review about Hawthorne and his "Mosses": "This black conceit pervades him through and through. You may be witched by his sunlight, transported by the bright gildings in the skies he builds over you; but there is the blackness of darkness beyond; and even his bright gildings but fringe and play upon the edges of thunder-clouds." William Henry Channing noted in his review of the collection that its author "had been baptized in the deep waters of Tragedy", and his work was dark with only brief moments of "serene brightness" which was never brighter than "dusky twilight". ©2017 Audioliterature (P)2017 Audioliterature Members Reviews: A timeless and incomparable love-story, born of a place and time. This writing is a clear voice speaking from out of the early 1840's, when love was new, their lives were charmed, and a greatness in literature was before Nathaniel and Sophia. 170 years later, we are changed by them, and still mesmerized by the living sense scratched into the windowpane by Sophia's wedding ring, that evening bathed in the color of a glorious sunset.

It is an immersive experience, making these ancient tales tangible for those who are new to these incredible heroic stories and a delight for those already familiar with the poem" (Francis Ford Coppola) Members Reviews: This book is a must have ! This book is a must have ! Hamid Rahmanian has been able to make the Shahnameh accessible to a large audience via a pleasant and easy to read format with beautiful illustrations. The amount of work and dedication that was put into this masterpiece is just staggering, every page is a wonderful work of art. Many thanks to Hamid and Dr Sadri for this ! I bought several as gifts and people loved it ! Lovely presentation of the Persian epic I had tried to read the Dick Davis more complete translation but it all began to run together after a while, with moments of power but a lot of hubbub. This version was much easier to follow and I found the illustrations a treat -- I am sympathetic to the idea of using modern technology to create a new variation on the long existent tradition of illustrating the work. I suspect I'll go back to Davis in the near future and do the thing properly but I really enjoyed this approach. Fabulous book I love the classic stories of the shahnameh and I think think version is by far the best. It's evident that this was a labor of love. So much detail in the illustrated works.

I wondered how men in gothic stories behaved if they were the good guys. Only one women in the story and she did not faint or get kidnapped. Tale of the lost heir, and son, etc, coming into his own, the people who try to stop him and the ones who tried to help him. But he had a tendency to fall on his knees and cry a lot.. And the people helping him had to stop and pray about everything, then he would cry again. Gothic romance without women. Unusual. Good book, amazing condition. Just took too long to get here. I live in Alaska so that is a fact of like, though, I did order this well in return. I actually finished the kindle book before this one arrived. Now I have it for notes. The conditions is honestly better than used, the binding being gently broken in. To whom ever owned this before, thank you. Be prepared to attack this wonderful story in the early morning or you will not get to bed at your regular time. Once you start you will not be able to put it down until you finish every last page. Please enjoy.
