Forgotten Art History Episode 5: Sacred Cities of the Andes
Long before the Inca Empire, and centuries before European contact, ancient cultures along the coast and highlands of Peru were creating some of the most sophisticated art and ritual landscapes in the ancient world. In this episode, we explore Chavín, Nazca, and the Moche, three cultures whose monuments, ceramics, and sacred spaces reveal complex belief systems, political power, and deep connections to the environment. Often pushed to the margins of history by colonial narratives, these civilizations tell a very different story of South America. It is one of innovation, resilience, and artistic brilliance. This episode is an invitation to look beyond conquest and rediscover the cultures that shaped the region long before it was renamed by outsiders.
