Episode 153: ABRUPTIO (2023) Is a Full-Blown Puppet Nightmare | Live Reaction & FMK Rating
This week on Fright Flick FMK, we’re watching and reacting to Abruptio — a surreal horror-thriller performed with lifelike puppets, and yes, it looks just as unsettling as that sounds.
The movie follows Les Hackel, a guy already having a rough time, who wakes up to find an explosive device implanted in his neck. From there, he is forced into a series of violent, bizarre, and increasingly twisted missions while trying to figure out who is controlling the nightmare around him.
And the entire thing is done with puppets.
Not cute puppets. Not fun puppets. Not “let’s all learn a lesson” puppets.
These are creepy, lifelike, dead-eyed nightmare puppets voiced by a wild cast that includes James Marsters, Robert Englund, Jordan Peele, Hana Mae Lee, Christopher McDonald, and Sid Haig.
Fright Flick FMK is a horror movie watch-along and reaction show for fans who like their scary movies with attitude, laughs, bad decisions, and zero fake polish. We kick back, get elevated, pour a drink, press play, and talk through the chaos in real time.
For Abruptio, we’re looking at the puppet madness, the violence, the weirdness, the voice cast, the “what the hell am I watching?” factor, and whether this movie is actually a bold horror oddity or just a fever dream someone put strings on.
At the end, we rate it with The Only Rating System That Matters:
Marry It means the movie is a keeper — the kind of horror flick you can grow old with and keep coming back to.
F@#k It means it’s a good time when the mood hits — maybe not forever material, but definitely worth another late-night visit.
Kill It means the movie gave us a good time, we might tell our friends about it, but we are ghosting it in the morning.
So pull up a chair, pour whatever you’re pouring, light whatever you’re lighting, and join the Fright Flick Family.
Sip. Smoke. Scream. Rate.
