This week Kathryn is joined live by professional cyclist and coach Serena Bishop Gordon to chat about all off-season training. Serena is our Feisty Cycling coach and has developed a three month winter training plan for cyclists. Her approach is to think of the “off-season” as a time to build the foundation for your race season, and she talks through a few of the mistakes that she commonly sees athletes make, as well as how to avoid them. Serena talks about the importance of building a progressive plan in order to maximize your training and recovery, and how to set goals that will help guide your training through this base building season. Serena and Kathryn also go through the details of how the Feisty Winter Training Plan will be run, and it kicks off December 1st! On this week’s episode Kathryn and Kristi are joined by professional cyclist and Life Time Grand Prix athlete Paige Onweller. Shortly after the Leadville 100 MTB race, Paige was hit by a car while out on a training ride while at home in Arkansas. Not only did the crash cause Paige major physical injuries and a severe concussion, it left her struggling with the emotional toll of the trauma from the incident. Paige speaks openly about the challenges she has faced since the crash, and how her path to recovery is going so far. Anyone that knows Paige knows that she is a highly motivated laser focused on being the best athlete she can be. When that was taken away by the crash and resulting injuries, Paige refocused her attention to becoming an advocate for safety for cyclists and other vulnerable road users. She is passionate about spreading awareness around road safety, and giving a voice to those of us that use the roads for cycling, running, walking and other activities. Paige is in the process of creating resources that will provide a template and framework on how to reach out to your state representative, and she encourages all cyclists to speak out and advocate for safety on the roads. On this episode Kathryn is chatting with Southeast Gravel Series co-founders Christy Keely and Nichole Johnson from Greenville, South Carolina. Southeast Gravel is a six event series with events in small towns across North and South Carolina. Before they were event coordinators, Christy and Nicole were teammates on the Kenda racing team in the early 2000s. Although they lived in different parts of the country, they became fast friends and eventually both moved to Greenville to be near each other, and the world-class riding that the area has to offer. The pair discuss how their friendship evolved to starting a multi-race cycling series, and how they have kept the series true to its homegrown roots, supporting small towns in their region. New for 2026 Southeast Gravel will be adding two guided trips to Belgium during the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix spring classics.
