Packed with energy and featuring a number of bust-outs, the tour was unforgettable, including the legendary “Box of Rain” in Hampton. However, a closer look suggests this might not have been either the highlight or the best show of the tour. Make sure to check out all six shows! Oh Boy the great East Coast Scarlet>Fire drought continues with a spirited Scarlet>Touch that doesn't quite take us to the promised land. Some spirited playing on our last night of the tour, but not getting the Fire sticks far longer than necessary. From the podcast: "In fact, there will be no Scarlet>Fire combinations until Cal Expo in May, one of only three in ’86, all performed in California. The Great East Coast Fire Drought ran from the Meadowlands, November 11, 1985, to Hampton, March 22, 1987. And hold on to your hats; the next Philly Fire on the Mountain will not occur until 18 months later, at The Spectrum on September 11, 1988. Then again, if your biggest problem in life is not catching the Dead playing Scarlet>Fire, it must be pretty good. However, a closer look suggests this might not have been either the highlight or the best show of the tour. Make sure to check out all six shows! Last night of the tour and both the band and ourselves are starting to feel fatigued. The first set does little to alleviate this feeling, but is notable for the first ever Desolation Row which clocks in at over ten minutes and sung virtually flawlessly. Hopes are high for a nice closing second set From the podcast: > "Desolation Row is like taking a long walk along the beach while escaped circus freaks tell you their life stories. They are so captivating that we want to drop everything and join them at the end of the boardwalk. Given how the set keeps wobbling and shaking, this may be a good idea." The second Box of Rain of the tour is the highlight of the set, but one would be remiss into thinking that it was the only well played tune of the set. Night two at The Spectrum and there are still plenty of surprises to come. From the podcast: "When they see Phil, they know. When they heard about Hampton, they knew. When tickets for all three nights were in hand, they knew. It was just a question of when, not if. And certainly not where. Philly is the place to do it. No one cares about next time, whether it’s Portland, Providence, or Hartford. No one knows how to do it like Philadelphia, and they will be the first ones to let you know.
