Haroon Moghul is a Pakistani‑American author, educator, and commentator whose work explores identity, faith, and public life. He blends personal experience with scholarly insight, making him a compelling voice on American Islam and global issues. Born in Massachusetts in 1980, he grew up in a Pakistani Punjabi family in New England. His parents, both physicians, emphasized education and community service. Haroon’s journey into public life began at New York University, where he emerged as a student leader at the Islamic Center following 9/11. That experience propelled him into national conversations on faith and belonging. His bestselling memoir, How to Be a Muslim: An American Story (2017), explores his struggles with identity, mental health, and faith as a second‑generation immigrant. In 2022, he released Two Billion Caliphs: A Vision of a Muslim Future, a visionary work on Muslim leadership. He also authored earlier works including The Order of Light and My First Police State. As a public intellectual, Haroon writes for The New York Times, The Washington Post, TIME, and The Guardian. He appears regularly on CNN, NPR, MSNBC, and BBC, and serves as a fellow with organizations like the Shalom Hartman Institute and the Center on National Security at Fordham Law. Additionally, he co-hosts the Avenue M podcast. Through teaching, public speaking, writing, and podcasting, Haroon Moghul continues to shape dialogue on faith, identity, justice, and the American Muslim experience.
