Sermon: Be Realistic... and Sing!

Be Realistic... and Sing! Sermon on 1 Peter 3:8-16, preached by Pastor Julius Buelow for Trinity 6 on July 5, 2026. mtolivelincoln.org [http://mtolivelincoln.org] Sermon text: 8Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another. Show sympathy, brotherly love, compassion, and humility. 9Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. Instead, speak a blessing, because you were called for the purpose of inheriting a blessing. 10Indeed: Let the one who wants to love life and to see good days keep his tongue from evil and his lips from saying anything deceitful. 11Let him turn from evil and do what is good. Let him seek peace and pursue it. 12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their requests. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. Suffering for Doing Good 13Who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good? 14But even if you should happen to suffer because of righteousness, you are blessed. Do not be afraid of what they fear, and do not be troubled. 15But regard the Lord, the Christ, as holy in your hearts. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that is in you. 16But speak with gentleness and respect, while maintaining a clear conscience, so that those who attack your good way of life in Christ may be put to shame because they slandered you as evildoers. Holy Bible: Evangelical Heritage Version (Milwaukee, WI: Northwestern Publishing House, 2019), 1 Pe 3:8–16.

Sermon: How Can a Loving God Send People to Hell?

How can a Loving God Send People to Hell? Sermon preached for Trinity 1 on June 14, 2026 by Pastor Julius Buelow at Mt Olive Lutheran in Lincoln, NE. mtolivelincoln.org [http://mtolivelincoln.org] Sermon text, Luke 16:19-31: 19“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day. 20A beggar named Lazarus had been laid at his gate. Lazarus was covered with sores and 21longed to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Besides this, the dogs also came and licked his sores. 22Eventually the beggar died, and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In hell, where he was in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus at his side. 24He called out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me! Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in misery in this flame.’ 25“But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received bad things. But now he is comforted here, and you are in misery. 26Besides all this, a great chasm has been set in place between us and you, so that those who want to cross from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ 27“He said, ‘Then I beg you, father, send him to my father’s home, 28because I have five brothers—to warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29“Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets. Let them listen to them.’ 30“ ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31“Abraham replied to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead. Holy Bible: Evangelical Heritage Version (Milwaukee, WI: Northwestern Publishing House, 2019), Lk 16:19–31.

Sermon: The Attitude the Triune God Gives

The Attitude the Triune God Gives Sermon preached by Pastor Julius Buelow for Holy Trinity Sunday at Mt Olive in Lincon, NE on 5/31/26. NOTE--the first bit of the sermon did not record properly, so this one starts about 5 minutes in. Text: Isaiah 6:1-8 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2Above him stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings. With two they covered their faces. With two they covered their feet. With two they flew. 3One called to another and said, Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Armies! The whole earth is full of his glory! 4The foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of the one who called, and the temple was filled with smoke. 5Then I said, “I am doomed! I am ruined, because I am a man with unclean lips, and I dwell among a people with unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Armies!” 6Then one of the seraphim flew to me, carrying a glowing coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs. 7He touched my mouth with the coal and said, “Look, this has touched your lips, so your guilt is taken away, and your sin is forgiven.” 8Then I heard the Lord’s voice, saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am. Send me!” Holy Bible: Evangelical Heritage Version (Milwaukee, WI: Northwestern Publishing House, 2019), Is 6:1–8.

Sermon: Man's Potential and God's Potential

Man's Potential and God's Potential Sermon preached by Pastor Julius Buelow at Mt Olive in Lincoln, NE for Pentecost on May 24th, 2026. Sermon Text: Genesis 11:1-9 The whole earth had one language and a single vocabulary. 2As people traveled in the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they settled there. 3They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used mud brick instead of stone for building material, and they used tar for mortar. 4They said, “Come, let’s build a city for ourselves and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, so that we will not be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” 5The LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the people were building. 6The LORD said, “If this is the first thing they are doing as one people, who all have one language, then nothing that they intend to do will be too difficult for them. 7Come, let’s go down there and confuse their language, so that they cannot understand one another’s speech.” 8So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth, and they stopped building the city. 9It was named Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of the whole earth. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth. Holy Bible: Evangelical Heritage Version (Milwaukee, WI: Northwestern Publishing House, 2019), Ge 11:1–9.
