Billy Jack Gaither oli nelikymppinen mies ja hän asui Sylacaugan pikkukaupungissa Alabamassa vuonna 1999. Lokakuussa 1992 kaksi 16-vuotiasta poikaa olivat matkalla uuden kaverinsa järjestämiin Halloween-juhliin Louisianan Baton Rougessa. Toisen pojan isä oli tulostanut heille ajo-ohjeet, koska kumpikaan heistä ei ollut vieraillut kaverin luona aikaisemmin. Tappo vai murha? Nadine Lottin henkirikos joulukuussa 2019 järkytti Irlantia. Teko oli poikkeuksellisen väkivaltainen ja tekijän vähätteleväksi koettu suhtautuminen tapahtuneeseen herätti keskustelua.
