Does it feel like the script has flipped?Instead of your parents worrying about you, you’re the one worrying about them. Siblings may be hands-off or missing in action, and the weight falls on you. You’re double-checking their bills, wondering what would happen if they fell when no one was around — or worse, if they hurt someone while driving. Deep down, you want to honor their wish to stay at home, but you also worry about their safety and independence. I get it — it’s a lot, and sometimes it feels like too much. Hi, I’m Trina: daughter, advocate, and Elderly Planning Coach. Navigating Elderly Parents is ranked in the top 5% of podcasts globally, and I believe that reflects how many daughters are quietly carrying the weight of helping aging parents stay safe, independent, and supported at home. I know what it’s like to juggle your own busy life while managing your parents’ needs, and that’s why this podcast exists — to help you find what works, save time, and feel supported along the way. My goal: give you the systems, planning tools, and trustworthy resources — boiled down to the nuggets that matter — so you can skip the endless searching, protect your parents’ independence, and finally breathe easier. My experience helping my parents, in-laws and clients — along with countless friends navigating the same challenges — taught me how complicated aging can become. Even with good planning, things slip through the cracks: finances, safety, and those everyday changes that come with aging. Through it all, I’ve learned that no two families walk the same road, but we can all lean on shared wisdom, encouragement, and faith to guide us through. I don’t offer medical, legal, or financial advice, and I’m not a licensed professional — but I am someone who knows how to ask the right questions, find trustworthy help, and share what’s been learned along the way. I spent many late nights online trying to find those answers myself — only to end up more stressed and sleepless. What I discovered is that peace doesn’t come from knowing everything; it comes from finding the right next step and trusting the process. Experts, seniors, and caregivers have shared incredible wisdom with me, and I’ve made it my mission to pass those takeaways along to you.   Here, you’ll find practical tools, expert interviews, and gentle encouragement to help you: Keep your parents safe, independent, and supported in their home Navigate finances, healthcare, and planning decisions with clearer steps and understanding Build systems that bring order instead of chaos Honor your parents as God calls us to — with wisdom, grace, and love This podcast is your space to get better equipped — with insights, resources, and strategies you can use today. Think of it like coffee with a friend who gets it. Welcome to Navigating Elderly Parents.

Episode 21.Caregiver Burnout to Rest: Our Adult Day Care Story Cover

21.Caregiver Burnout to Rest: Our Adult Day Care Story

If you've ever wondered whether adult day care is really worth it — or even where to begin — this episode is going to answer that in the most personal way possible. I sat down with my own sister-in-law Marlene and her mom, my Abuela, to talk about the moment our family said yes to adult day care for Abuelo — and what happened next. Because the families navigating this journey don't always speak one language, and neither does the love that drives us to show up for our parents. Before adult day care, Abuela was running on empty. She was exhausted, unable to rest, unable to get anything done — because Abuelo needed someone with him around the clock. Her own health was suffering, and the people around her — family, friends, and her doctor — all started saying the same thing: it's time to get some help. What followed was a process — phone calls, a county program, a social worker, a waitlist, and eventually a facility visit that changed everything. This episode walks you through every step of how they got there. And then something unexpected happened. Abuelo — who was barely walking and barely talking — came home one day with a painting he made. Then he won bingo. Then he started telling stories about the live music on Fridays. The transformation was real, and Abuela finally got to take a nap. This is what the right resource at the right time can do for your whole family — and Abuela wants every caregiver to hear it. 20. Adult Day Care: What It Is, What It Costs, and How to Start

Is your aging parent living independently — but spending too much time alone, isolated, with nothing to do and nobody around? You are showing up, checking in, worrying — and you know it is not sustainable. In this episode, I am breaking down adult day care: what it actually is, how it works, what it costs, and why it might be the missing piece in your parent's care plan that nobody told you about. I also share a personal story — people I love, people who have been in my life for twenty-five years — my Abuelo and Abuela — and how adult day care radically changed their health and longevity. You are not going to want to miss the next two episodes: the first is their story in English, and the second is the same episode completely in Spanish. If you know someone who needs to hear this en español, that episode is for them. If you are ready to stop guessing and start planning, I would love to help you get clarity on your specific situation. Episode 19. Parkinson's, Caregiver Fatigue, and the Truth About Independent Senior Living Cover

19. Parkinson's, Caregiver Fatigue, and the Truth About Independent Senior Living

Your mom or dad is stubborn. The decline is real. And you are out here trying to plan for their future while they insist they don't need help yet. Dottie was married 55 years. Her husband was strong, independent, and not exactly the type to ask for help. When Parkinson's and a stroke changed everything, like so many of our parents, he struggled to accept that things were changing. But Dottie kept planning anyway. In this episode, she shares how her family navigated senior living options together, why they chose independent senior living over assisted living, how VA benefits made in-home care possible, and what she wishes every adult child knew before a crisis hit. If you are the one in your family doing the planning while everyone else is in denial, this episode is for you. Dottie walked this road as a devoted wife — and her story is proof that preparation is not control. It is kindness. And sometimes, it is the greatest act of love you can give your elderly parent.   📋 Ready to make your own plan before the next crisis hits? 18. Your Aging Parent Needs a Dog. The Research-Backed Case for Living Longer at Home

What if the simplest upgrade to your parent's health, mood, and daily routine weighed six pounds and had strong opinions about walk routes? Sounds ridiculous. Except it's not. The research on dogs and aging adults is actually wild and if you haven't heard the numbers yet, you are going to want to sit down. In this episode we are getting into the surprisingly powerful case for getting your elderly parent a dog — or maybe a cat, because the cat stat almost made me fall off my chair — and why this one thing could quietly be doing more for their health, their safety, and their reason to get up in the morning than anything else on your list right now. This is not a fluff episode. Pun maybe intended. There are real numbers, real safety considerations, real stories from real people including my own mom and her seven-pound spitfire Emily, and real practical steps you can take.
