Episode 42 - James Curry Says, "Cut Congress Some Slack" Cover

42 - James Curry Says, "Cut Congress Some Slack"

In this episode, Dr. James Curry, Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame visits with Emily and James about the some of the misperceptions of Congress. Dr. Curry argues that Congress isn't nearly as dysfunctional as many of its critics claim. He notes that while party is still a major factor in decision-making in Congress, it is not as dominant an influence as it once was. In addition, he claims that legislators are much more concerned about understanding their voters than the media or academics give them credit for. And, Dr. Curry has found that members of Congress have to wade through a bevy of legislative staff, agency personnel, and lobbyists to come to a conclusion about the benefits of any given bill. Dr. Curry also argues that voters are better at holding their individual members accountable than is often recognized.
