In March 2015, PJ Donahue woke up on the floor of his basement wearing his clothes from the night before, and a half finished beer in his hand. At that point, he made the decision to get sober. Since then, PJ has taken on the challenge to run a marathon in all 50 states to help him on his mission to stay sober. We will talk to PJ about what this journey means to him. PJ is a full time musician (drummer) who lives in New Hampshire with his wife Jen and daughter Molly. If you’d like to follow along with PJ’s running journey, you can find his Facebook page below. Join Trevor and I as we talk ultras! Trevor’s running journey is still fairly young (he started in 2016) but his resume and list of accomplishments is astounding. Since starting running, Trevor has run 55 ultras, including a number of 100 mile and 200 mile races. He’s taken well to the sport, and his resume includes a bunch of podium finishes. In this interview, we found out how Trevor got his start in running, how he got into the sport of ultra running, how he handles training and high race volume, what its like to run a 200 mile race in the rugged Franklin Mountains, and what his next step is after a 200 miler (hint, hint, it involves a 330 mile footrace). Trevor is the #ultrarunningdad, and tells us how he uses ultra running to set an example for his four young daughters that the sky is the limit. A little over a decade ago, Laruen Ross didn’t even know a half marathon “was a thing” and was largely running for fun. Fast forward to 2020, and she is now a 2:45 marathoner who continues to set her sights on big goals. Listen along as Laurent talks about her life in running, including enjoying the friendships built through running across the country, her continued improvement in the marathon, and working toward a goal of running an Olympic Trials Qualifier. We also talk food, another of Lauren’s passions that she gets to enjoy through her career as a registered dietician. Enjoy! What’s it like to run 50 ultra marathons in 50 weeks for your 50th birthday? Or how about finishing the 200+ mile Seattle to Portland Bike Race after being hit by a car and breaking your arm? Guest Brad Hefta-Gaub answers these questions and more as we get to hear his crazy tales of ultra running and beyond. Brad’s journey of craziness started with a simple bet from his wife that he wouldn’t work out if he joined a 24 hour gym and casually evolved into Brad becoming a multiple time Iron Man finisher, completing multiple 200 mile bike races and running 50 ultra marathons in the 2019 calendar year to celebrate his 50th year on planet Earth. Brad tells his stories with the humor he is well known for. Of all Brad’s bad ideas, being on Our Mountain Podcast was by far his most recent! Enjoy! Instagram [https://instagram.com/zappoman]

In Episode two we take a romp through ultra-running with guest Rachel Entrekin! Rachel set the Female Unsupported Wonderland Trail [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderland_Trail] Fastest Known Time (FKT) in July of 2019, by running 93 miles around the gnarly terrain of Mount Rainier in just over 25 hours. We talk all things Wonderland, hear about Rachel’s running journey and what future plans she has for her bad-ass self. If you can’t get enough of Rachel after listening, check her out on the gram or her blog.
